Kim On Woodley Fight: ‘I Will Drive Forward And Go Crazy’

By BJPENN.COM News - June 24, 2014

It was announced today that Korean UFC star Dong Hyun Kim would no longer be facing Hector Lombard at UFC Fight Night 48 in Maine. Instead, ‘The Stun Gun’ would be facing off with #4 ranked Tyron Woodley. Kim spoke through a translator to MMA-in-Asia.com to talk about the sudden change of opponents, and how regardless of who he was fighting, he is sure to put on an exciting match-up.

“When I heard the news, I was devastated and surprised. There’s kind of a mixed feeling right now. I’m not picky with my opponents, but I was focusing on Lombard, and even people in Korea were focusing on him.”

“He’s a strong fighter. He’s ranking is higher than Lombard, but he just lost. They are all tough competitors though, and every one of them can be champion.”

Riding a four-fight win streak into his bout with Woodley, The 4th degree Judo Black Belt was asked if the sudden change in opponents would cause him to alter his more recent gameplan from exciting striking that saw him knock out John Hathaway via spinning elbow, to a more safer approach that has worked well for him throughout his career, smothering his opponents with his elite level Judo takedowns.

“Only this style. This is my style from now on.”

With his most recent two victories coming by way of knockout, Kim is eager to put on an exciting fight for the fans. He vocalized that pleasing the fans is his top priority.

“Having exciting fights. No matter who the competitor is, I’m just going to drive forward and go crazy.”
