Ahead of his UFC 183 bout against Tyron Woodley on January 31st, Kelvin Gastelum spoke about the bout, what a win over Woodley can do for his career, and where he feels he can defeat Woodley.
With his recent win over Jake Ellenberger, Gastelum will be looking to cement his place in the UFC welterweight divisions top 5. When he got the call to fight #3 ranked Woodley, Gastelum was excited.
“I was excited to make that next step to where I’m in the title mix, so I was extremely excited.”
With a win over Woodley, many are wondering if Gastelum will get a title shot, something he isn’t too worried about.
“That choice isn’t up to me, you know? I’ll do whatever the company asks of me, but It’ll definitely put me in that picture, one win away for sure, after Tyron.”
As a quick rising star, with an undefeated record, Gastelum couldn’t be more confident going into his bout with Woodley, Gastelum sized up his opponent, and where he feels Woodley is strongest.
“His athleticism, just like everybody can see, his athleticism, his explosiveness, and his power, he’s a very explosive and powerful athlete, and that’s what stands out really, and its going to be a tough test to deal with.”
“I put up a sort of pace that I don’t know a lot of people can keep up with, you know? I put up a very high pace right off the bat, and put pressure on you, and i think a guy like Tyron is going to have a hard time dealing with it.”
