Jacare confident in his takedown defense ahead of Romero fight

For Ronaldo Jacare Souza and Yoel Romero, this will be the third time the two are scheduled to face off in the cage. After their fight was cancelled twice this year, the two top contenders are looking to battle for a title shot in the middleweight division at UFC 194. Coincidentally, the winner of their fight will get to watch closely as middleweight champion Chris Weidman takes on Luke Rockhold for the title on the same card.

Jacare spoke with Portal do Vale Tudo and expressed his confidence in his takedown defense and his submission game if the fight does end up on the ground.

“If it should go to the ground, I won’t waste a chance to use my jiu-jitsu and submit him,” Jacare said. “Every fight starts standing, though. He’s an excellent wrestler, the best one in the UFC, but it’s not that easy to take Jacare down.”
