UFC on FX: Johnson v McCall

Ian Mcall and John Lineker were set to face off in the co-main event of yesterday night’s UFC Fight Night 56 in what was likely a #1 contender match.

The night before the bout ‘Uncle Creepy’ was forced from the bout due to illness according to UFC President Dana White.

McCall revealed to MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani that a blood infection forced him from the bout, and ultimately landed him in the hospital.

“Bacterial infection in my blood. My body just failed me after the weigh-ins,”

“UFC blood tested me a few weeks ago and it showed I had a slight infection. I just figured I’d work through it. I’m in such great shape and am so healthy I didn’t think it would affect me like this.

“Since getting to Brazil, I’ve had a fever and only slept one to hours a night.”

“I’m very sorry about how all this happened, especially to John [Lineker]. We both needed this fight for so many reasons. We still do. Hopefully the UFC grants me another opportunity.”
