Less than a month after Daniel Cormier dominated Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC 187, his first challenger to his title has been announced. Alexander Gustafsson will step into the octagon with DC to once again attempt to retrieve UFC gold.

In a recent interview with MMAViking, Gustafsson was asked if he saw any holes in Cormier’s game. “Tons of them! It was so frustrating to watch that fight, but it is what it is. Anthony did a great job winning over me. All credit to him. DC did a great job against Anthony. That’s MMA.”

Hours proceeding the fight, it seemed like the fight fans wanted to see was Ryan Bader challenging for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Bader had confronted Cormier at the UFC 187 Post Fight Press Conference, but UFC officials went in a different direction and gave the shot to Gus.

“I believe that the UFC wants to see me against DC. That’s so simple. They really want to see us fight. Also, a good job from my managers, too. They’ve been working hard for this opportunity and I’m very thankful for this so I can’t wait.”
