A welterweight bout between Gunnar Nelson (13-1-1 MMA) and John Hathaway (17-2 MMA) is the latest addition to July’s stacked UFC 189 card in Las Vegas.

UFC officials announced the fight yesterday.

Gunnar Nelson is coming off the first loss of his mixed martial arts career, which he suffered to Rick Story this past October via judges split-decision. The setback snapped a 13-fight win streak for “Gunni”, which included four straight victories under the UFC banner.

Meanwhile, England’s John Hathaway will also be looking to rebound, this after suffering a KO loss (spinning back elbow) to Dong Hyun Kim in March of 2014. That loss snapped a 3-fight win streak for Hathaway, as he had previously scored octagon victories over Kris McCray, Pascal Krauss and John Maguire.

John Hathaway has been battling Crohn’s disease for the past few years and will return from a 16-month layoff when he meets Nelson in Sin City.

UFC 189 takes place July 11 live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event is headlined by a featherweight title fight featuring current champion Jose Aldo defending his strap against “The Notorious” Conor McGregor.
