Glazer Praises Weidman: He’s The Future

By BJPENN.COM News - July 2, 2014

Fox Sports broadcaster Jay Glazer spoke to MMAJunkie.com about UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman and how the champ doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

“He has the potential to be the next star,” Glazer told MMAjunkie. “He’s a good-looking guy, and he’s as down to earth as you’re ever going to get. The sport can change some people, and it hasn’t to him.”

“The guy is a more violent version of Chael Sonnen with better standup,” Glazer said. “His pace is great. … People don’t consider him (a top) pound-for-pound (fighter) yet, but he has the knockout punch, he has takedowns, he has the submissions, and he has the chin. There’s nothing in particular that’s wrong with him.”

However this Saturday Weidman will face a very game Lyoto Machida at UFC 175, who’s a very elusive, elite level striker.

“Machida’s tough for everybody,” Glazer said. “He’s a matchup nightmare no matter who you are. I just want Chris – if he wins – I just want him to get the respect he finally deserves.”

“I think he is a star, but he’s not yet polished,” Glazer said. “He’s the future, and he’s legitimately one of the sweetest human beings you’ll ever meet in your life. His shtick is that he has no shtick.”
