Jose Aldo will no longer be the lone champion walking into his fight with Conor McGregor when they eventually meet. Instead, both men will boast gold above their heads walking into the fight as McGregor took home the interim UFC Featherweight Championship when he defeated Chad Mendes at “UFC 189” on Saturday night.

As scheduled, the fight between the two will still take place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dana White stated during the UFC 189 post fight press conference, “There’s a thing where we told Conor [McGregor]— If Conor fought and beat Jose Aldo, we would let him defend at Croke Park in Ireland. When he and Jose fight, it’ll be here in Las Vegas.”

Aldo was originally scheduled to face McGregor in the main-event of UFC 189, however he was forced to pull out due to a rib injury. Instead, McGregor fought late-replacement Chad Mendes who was ranked #1 in the featherweight division for the interim UFC Featherweight Championship.

McGregor weather several takedowns to ultimately knock Mendes out in the second round. Do you think Aldo could be looking at a similar fate? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
