Cormier Wants Nothing Less Than A Number-One Contender Match At 205

By BJPENN.COM News - February 27, 2014

Following his light-heavyweight debut, Daniel Cormier, isn’t trying to waste anymore time with UFC Newcomers. He wants the strap and will fight whoever it takes to get him that shot.

The AKA based fighter would likely already be in contention talks had Rashad Evans not pulled out of their bout. But after a bout canceling injury occurred, Cormier was forced to face off with Pat Cummins, a fighter that did little for D.C.’s rankings.

The FOX crew told us last night that Daniel is hoping for a quick rise through the UFC’s light-heavyweight ranks and won’t settle on anything less than a number-one contender bout:

“He wants nothing less than a number-one contender match. He says he’ll be ok fighting the winner of Phil Davis vs. Anthony Johnson. If Jimi Manuwa beats Alexander Gustafsson, he believes he should get the next title fight. He wants number-one contender or title shot right away. ”
