Confirmed: Joanna Jedrzejczyk has broken hand, needs surgery

By BJPENN.COM News - November 16, 2015

Joanna Jedrzejczyk escaped the octagon with the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship secured around her waist, but it wasn’t without paying a price. Fans expected the champion to waltz through eighth-ranked Valerie Letourneau based on her past performances and the odds, but styles make matchups! Letourneau brought the champion to her limit and while she did not come as close as she wished to winning the title, she turned a lot of heads and may actually move up the rankings despite her loss.

Jedrzejczyk landed a whopping 227 strikes throughout her twenty-five minute war with Letourneau and suffered a broken hand in the process. Jedrzejczyk’s manager Tiago Okamura confirmed with MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani that she had suffered a broken right hand and will need surgery to patch it up.

This isn’t the first time Jedrzejczyk broke her right hand; She suffered a break in her fight with Jessica Penne when she defended the championship in June on UFC Fight Pass. There is currently no timetable for her return, but make sure to stay tuned to BJPENN.COM for more on this story as it develops.
