Chael Sonnen Says Wanderlei Has Not Signed The Contract Yet

The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3, featuring Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva, is set to air on UFC Fight Pass starting March 9. A lot of news has been making the rounds before the show’s first episode has even aired, most notably the huge brawl between the coaches, teased in the trailer for the upcoming season.

Like other seasons before it, the coaches of each team are expected to fight after the show has concluded. The fight between Sonnen and Silva has been in the making for a while, like two years in the making. With all the promised craziness set to go on between the two on the show, fans will be chomping at the bit to see these rivals square off in the octagon. However, it seems as though one of the coaches has yet to actually sign the contract.

Sonnen spoke with Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio and had this to say when asked if Silva had signed the contract to fight him yet,

“I have no update, but I continue to poke him in the chest with this statement that he hasn’t signed. I know he hadn’t signed last time I was updated and my assumption, psychology wise, is that if he had, he would make that announcement,” Sonnen said. “He tweets on a regular basis, he makes comments any time somebody will give him some attention, and he never responds to that one thing, which is ‘why have you not agreed to this fight?’ So I’m going to assume he has not [signed].”

Sonnen was asked why the contract wasn’t signed before the season even started,

“The agreement, you know that’s the way The Ultimate Fighter works, is coach your teams and then the two opposing coaches go and square off. He certainly knew that this was the deal and whether it was ever flat-out said to him or not, there is a standard of the industry, and by showing up to do The Ultimate Fighter that’s your agreeing to then compete against the other coach. So I really don’t know what’s going on, I can only guess.”

Hopefully this gets worked out soon, it would be a shame to not get the fight, especially if this season is as crazy as it’s being made to seem. We’ll keep you posted her on BJPENN.COM
