Andre Pederneiras reveals bias with UFC with regard to Jose Aldo

On March 5, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will get a chance to make history at UFC 197. McGregor could become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two different weight class championship belts simultaneously, if he beats lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.

Jose Aldo

Andre Pederneiras, coach of former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo revealed in an interview with Sherdog that they requested to do the same thing, but were continually denied.

“Concerning Aldo, we are just waiting to see what the future holds right now since McGregor has been allowed to keep the 145 title while being able to fight or the 155 title,” Pederneiras said. “That is something that hasn’t happened before. I spent four years asking the UFC the same thing, to allow Aldo to keep his featherweight belt while going up and contesting at lightweight but it was never allowed. Now we see Conor get the OK on his first request.”

Pederneiras also mentioned that Aldo is back in the gym training and is anxiously awaiting a rematch with McGregor.

“That’s what he wants more than anything else in his life right now. He is very motivated and is in the gym every day. He is boxing and doing strength and conditioning making sure he is in good shape as he is very eager to hear some good news from the UFC. He has expectations for this rematch and if they call, he wants to be ready.”
