Anderson Silva: A fight with Nick Diaz could be interesting

By Chris Taylor - June 30, 2014

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva (33-6 MMA, 16-2 UFC) recently appeared at a media scrum in Rio de Janeiro, where he talked about a possible return fight against Nick Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC).

“Well, if everybody is saying that it would be an interesting fight, what am I going to say?” said Silva as translated by Guilherme Cruz for MMAFighting. “It could be an interesting fight.”

Anderson was also asked if he was hopeful to eventually earn a third bout against current middleweight champ Chris Weidman, to which he responded:

“Rematch with Chris Weidman is something that is not in my plans. He already defeated me twice, everybody saw this. Lyoto has an opportunity to fight him, we also have ‘Jacare’, who’s coming and looking for his way. Let’s root for them to get their space in the UFC and get their shot at the title, win it, become great champions and bring big wins for Brazil.”

Nick Diaz remains semi-retired for now. The Stockton slugger has gone on record as saying that the only way he will return to the octagon is for a title shot or for a “Big Fight” that will pay him at least $500,000.
