What’s next for ‘The Korean Zombie’ and Renato Moicano after UFC Greenville?

By Cole Shelton - June 23, 2019

The Octagon made its debut in South Carolina last night with UFC Greenville. In the main event, Chan Sung Jung, AKA “The Korean Zombie” was back after the last second knockout loss he suffered to Yair Rodriguez in November. He was taking on Brazil’s Renato Moicano, who was coming off of a TKO loss to Jose Aldo.

Korean Zombie, Renato Moicano

The fight did not last long as The Korean Zombie finished Moicano with a massive right hand and some followup ground strikes in just 58 seconds.

The result has shaken up the featherweight division. Here is what we think should be next for Korean Zombie and Renato Moicano.

Korean Zombie

Since returning from his mandatory military service in his native South Korea, Korean Zombie has looked great. The 32-year-old knocked out Dennis Bermudez then lost to Rodriguez in a Fight of the Night then had this massive performance against Moicano. There is no question Korean Zombie should get another top-10 or even top-five fighter.

If the rumored Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Brian Ortega fight doesn’t happen, having Korean Zombie take on the Russian makes a ton of sense. The two have entertaining styles and could easily headline a Fight Night card or add to a pay-per-view main card. But, if Magomedsharipov vs. Ortega does happen, having Korean Zombie take on Calvin Kattar makes sense. The UFC is rumored to be headed to Boston, where Kattar is from, and the two could easily headline that event.

Renato Moicano

Renato Moicano was looking to get back into the win column after losing to Jose Aldo. But, after a quick knockout loss, it is back to the drawing board. The Brazilian will need time off and may return late this year or early next year. A logical next opponent would be against Ricardo Lamas who is also coming off of a knockout loss.

The two desperately need to win their next fights, and matching them up together would give one of them that opportunity.
