VIDEO | Vladimir Putin congratulates Khabib Nurmagomedov on his win at UFC 229

Vladimir Putin: How are you feeling?

Khabib Nurmagomedov: I’m fine, only my feet hurt a bit.

Putin: Congratulations on the victory! I would like to thank your father here for raising such a great fighter.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov: He wasn’t easy when he was a kid, but he turned out fine in the end.

Putin: Perhaps if he were easy he wouldn’t become such a fighter. We’ve been watching you closely and rooting for you. I am going to ask your father to cut you some slack.

Because what matters most is that you fought like a fighter and you won. You won decisively and with dignity.

Khabib: I hope the [Nevada State] Athletic Commission will rule in our favor.

Putin: Well what can I say about that? We all understand that it was a provocation and I’m sure your father understands that too. That it was done to use it against you in the fight. I believe that all of us in our country are one big family. And no matter what happens we need to try and avoid rashness like charging someone regardless of what’s going on.

Anything can happen in a family but we never allow ourselves to cross the line. Of course, if someone attacks us from the outside then all of us…not just you, can charge them and there could be hell to pay. But it’s best to avoid such course of action *laughs*.

I wish you continued success in your career.

Khabib: Thank you.

To say that current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s big title defending victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 229 was huge would be an understatement.

Projected to be the most viewed pay-per-view event in UFC history, Nurmagomedov shined bright inside the cage only for post fight antics to cast a cloud over his dominant performance.

As he still awaits his possible fine and suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission along with his 2 million dollar fight purse, it hasn’t stopped “The Eagle” from celebrating the big win back in his homeland.

It’s not every day that fighters get to visit the president after a victory inside the cage.
