Fight fans are hoping that 2018 will be the year that they finally get see current UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov square off with former division title holder Conor McGregor.

Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz discussed the potential Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov lightweight title fight with ESNews over the weekend.

The Stockton native believes “The Eagle” is expected to win the highly anticipated showdown, but with that said he isn’t ruling “Mystic Mac” out either.

“That’s going to be a tough fight for both people. There is a lot of pressure for one guy, and then.. Khabib’s supposed to win. Becuase a guy like Conor, it takes a long time to develop a formula to deal with someone like Georges St-Pierre or Khabib. There’s a certain formula you have to use. You can’t just lay on your back. You have to turn over and you have to know how to deal with stuff.”

Last month it was announced that Nick Diaz, who has been out of action for three years due to his troubles with USADA, was free and clear to return to the UFC octagon.

With that said, no particular opponent or fight card has been made official for Nick Diaz’s highly anticipated return.

Nick Diaz was last seen in action at UFC 183 where he suffered a decision loss to Anderson Silva which was eventually overturned to a no-contest after “The Spider” tested positive for PED’s and Diaz was flagged for marijuana.

Nick’s most recent octagon victory came way back at UFC 137 when he defeated BJ Penn in a legendary “fight of the night” earning battle.
