Nate Diaz under investigation after altercation with Clay Guida at Combate Americas event

By Drake Riggs - May 15, 2018

Last Friday night things got a little bit wild in the audience of the Combate 20 event. As seems to generally be the case when Nate Diaz shows up attending MMA fights in the crowd…

Nate Diaz Clay Guida

Infamously known for two brawls prior to this one, Diaz and his brother Nick were banned from World Series of Fighting events for life after a scuffle with Khabib Nurmagomedov and company a few years back. Going even further back, there was the Nashville brawl in Strikeforce after the Diaz’ teammate, Jake Shields retained his middleweight title by beating Dan Henderson.

Which leads us to now. At the Combate Americas event Combate 20 event this past Friday, Diaz and fellow UFC lightweight and former opponent, Clay Guida were in attendance to support their fellow teammates. Happening somewhat randomly according to Guida’s manager John Fosco via MMAFighting, Diaz pushed Guida from behind causing Guida to fall into a metal guardrail and split his lip open. Guida was seen bleeding from the mouth after the incident took unfolded.

Sacramento sheriff spokesman Sgt. Shaun Hampton spoke in response to Guida’s filed report of battery.

“If it is found the victim was assaulted then a warrant request will be completed and submitted to the District Attorney’s office for review.” Hampton told MMAFighting, “The filing decision will be up to the DA.”

Also caught up in the mix of things was Guida’s teammate and current season 28 contestant on The Ultimate Fighter, Tyler Diamond. Diamond claimed on Twitter that he was slapped by Diaz for trying to break up the action.

“Nate Diaz just pushed Clay Guida from behind! & I ended up in the middle & he slapped me while his little entourage surround me. #209Bitches

You slap like a bitch @NateDiaz209!

He just pushed @clayguida who I was talking to & I got in the middle of it trying to descalate the situation & he slapped me & his entourage of ten dudes who knew he was going to do that tried jumping me.

I was talking face to face with Clay, he got pushed & I saw Nate & about ten other dudes so I stepped up with my arms out trying to descalate the situation & Nate then slapped me while one of his groupies rabbit punched me.”

Guida defeated Diaz in 2009 via split decision at UFC 94. Recently he has called for a rematch with ‘b*tch’ Diaz which may have had something to do with the outbreak.
