Yushin Okami Picked Up By World Series Of Fighting
On Sunday night, World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo confirmed what many had speculated.
With the click of his Twitter account, Sefo welcomed Yusin Okami to the WSOF.
“Welcome to the team @OkamiYushin great to have you as part of #WSOF,” Sefo tweeted.
After an 18-fight (13-5) run with the UFC, Okami was released last month when UFC President Dana White said it wasn’t worth keeping around a fighter who had reached “gatekeeper” status.
Okami is 29-8 and still considered a top ten middleweight in the world. He has won three-straight before losing by TKO to Ronaldo Souza. Okami has wins over Hector Lombard, Alan Belcher, Nate Marquardt and Mark Munoz in recent years.
WSOF was aggressive from the on-set to get Okami’s attention and made no bones about the organization’s interest in the ground game savant.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. WSOF airs events on NBC Sports Network and Okami should make his organizational debut in early 2014.
Is there a WSOF middleweight who could possibly hang with Okami? David Branch, Elvis Mutapcic, Jesse Taylor and Danillo Villefort have been mentioned, are there any others?
