It has been months since both Yushin Okami and Rousimar Palhares signed with the World Series of Fighting following their releases from the UFC; but it seems like fans finally have a date for when the two will make their debuts in the organization.
WSOF Executive Vice President Ali Abdel-Aziz announced on a conference call Thursday that both Okami and Palhares are expected to make their WSOF debuts on the March 29 card.
Okami (29-8), despite being ranked in the UFC’s top ten middleweight contenders, suffered a TKO loss to Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza that prompted his release from the organization. Okami’s impressive record includes recent wins over Hector Lombard, Alan Belcher and Mark Munoz.
Rousimar Palhares (15-5) had a less honorable release from the UFC. The organization cut Palhares for unsportsmanlike conduct at UFC Fight Night 29 when he failed to release a leglock submission after his opponent, Mike Pierce, tapped out. It was the second time Palhares had done so. At UFC 111, he held onto a heel hook despite Tomasz Drwal tapping out and the referee attempting to pry Palhares off Drwal’s leg.
Following his release, WSOF’s own President Ray Sefo said that Palhares needed professional help to address the issue. Sefo said the World Series would not look into signing Palhares until the fighter proves he is not looking to injure his opponents.Tags: mma, MMA NEWS, ray sefo, Rousimar Palhares, ufc, ufc news, world series of fighting, wsof, WSOF NEWS, yushin okami
