White Want Werdum to Stay Active During Velasquez Recovery
While Fabricio Werdum was supposed to have a shot at the Heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez all but cinched up, Dana White appears to have other plans for him. With Cain now potentially out until late 2014, White wants him to stay active. Werdum (17-5-1, 5-2 UFC), has not fought since a June victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, so an immediate title shot could leave him without a fight for up to a year and a half.
“He’s gonna fight. We saw what happened with guys like Rashad [Evans] and other people, when you sit around and wait,” White explained. “He could get hurt again and you could be out two years or whatever. It just makes no sense.”
According to White, the plan is to match up Werdum with the winner of the Travis Browne vs. Josh Barnett match-up that is taking place this weekend. A winner would most likely be the number one contender.
