I might be biased on this on this one because only one of these I saw live. Shogun vs Hendo was everything I could hope for and more in a fight.
word. i was there too and it was epic. jaw dropping moments and standing in disbelief for most of the fight. huge card. modesto, sacramento, san jose, and downy/temecula all represented california fighters well.
Sorry brotha for the miscommunication I meant on live on PPV instead of a rerun (UFC Unleashed) or on the internet. But I also live in CA.
it was a good fight, but slow paced after rnd 3 and very tiredsome
Wandy/Chuck got me into MMA. Amazing barnburner from two legends. The hype on Rua/Hendo will wear off, but it’ll certainly go down as one of the all time greatest fights. Also, no love for Guida/Sanchez?
Guido/Sanchez was a great fight as well!
I think its a Huge Oversight to skip over Sanchez Vs Diaz and Guida vs Huerta and Leban vs Akiyamma. Silva v sonnen was a one-sided beating save for the supprise ending. I’m pretty sure that fight was fixed, and M. Night Shyamalan co-wrote it with Michael Bay.
Guida vs Huerta was insane!
Guida vs Huerta was one of the greats for sure. Sports community knew it too. Made the cover of Sports Illustrated. First time ever for an MMA fight on the cover of their magazine I believe.
do yall mean huerta vs garcia
I would have to agree. As well as Guida vs Huerta. In fact, I would put those two over the Hendo vs Rua (slightly). Only because they were non-stop till the end. Hendo and Rua lulled in the last 2 rounds. Also, and it may not be exactly UFC, but notables WEC Garcia vs Jung I, and B. Henderson vs Cerrone I and II.
Couture vs Big Nog
That was a great fight.
Edgar vs Maynard 2 or 3? Nobody?
Yep loved them both
yup
Yeah, I picked Edgar vs. Maynard II.
That Rocky-like survival of the first round followed by that incredible body slam! Then trading of heavy shots and stuffed takedowns for the next 3 rounds, with the belt on the line. It had almost everything!
uhhh… did you actually watch either of them? they were unbelievable. both times maynard dominated the opening of the fight and both times, edgar fought through it and came back. they were incredible. especially the second fight.
How did Sonnen even make his way into this poll ??
What about Rampage vs Hendo ?
thank you.. thats what i voted for
Edson Barbosa vs Anthony Njokuani. Not very big names but epic fight!!!
I agree, amazing fight
Nightmare Vs The heat
edgar vs maynard II and III were both awesome
Definitely number 3, that was my pick for best fight of this year but then Hendo vs Shogun came along and blew everything out of the water.
yeh
Aldo/Hominick. Not the greatest ever. But Mark’s 5th round was epic.
Oh yeah I can agree with that! Hominic should get another shot for that awesome performance.
Hominic’s on top for the entire 5th round, does virtually no damage to Aldo during that round, and he deserves a rematch? Did you not see that alien growing out of Hominic’s forehead?
I think way too many viewers are influenced by what Rogan and Goldberg say during the broadcast. Throughout that fight, they kept saying how well Hominic was doing, but he really wasn’t–Aldo outboxed the “supposedly” better boxer! Aldo won 4 of 5 rounds, imo.
No disrespect. Just disagree.
I’d have to watch the fight with fresh eyes but I still think he put on a great performance and his warrior mentality made a fan out of me. I personally think they should have stopped the fight when he got that Hematoma but he just kept going..
I agree. But what made it exciting was that Hominic, though battered, fought hard to the end. Just like Rua did against Hendo. Because of the one sided dominance in 3.5 rounds for Aldo, I wouldn’t say it was the greatest in UFC history. But definitely one of my favorites of all time. Dang, I just can’t pick ONE. Even the top three has their upsides, that make it so hard to just pick one.
I agree
My favorite fight was probably Randy Couture vs Tim Silva, it was onesided but just given Randys adversity at the time, it was pretty awesome. Hard to pick the greatest fight ever.
Sylvia
My personal favorite was Chris Leben vs. Akiyama
I loved Leben vs. Akiyama, Better then any of the fights on that list for sure.
zach yoy must have not seen any of these fights every fight on that list was great! so stfu
I have seen all of these fights, most of them more then once. And I never said they weren’t great. so maybe YOY should learn to read and type before posting your already retarded statements on the internet.
Maybe you should learn how to spell, “YOU”.
He was making fun of him…
Agreed.
Edgar/Maynard 2 and 3, Chuck/Wandy, Couture/Nog, Sanchez/Guida,
Hendo/Shogun, Hendo/Rampage, Griffin/Bonnar 1, Garcia/Jung 1,
Phan/Garcia 1 and 2, Fabor/Cruz 2, Bendo/Pettis, Akiyama/Belcher,
Akiyama/Leben.
All of them tie for best of all time
lol
My top fights of all time aren’t the quick devasting KO’s or subs. It’s the long drawn out battles, that see-saw back and fourth. Non-stop action. No lulls. That both are bloodied and battered at the end, and no one knows which way it’s going to go. Those fights are epic.
How could I forget about Bendo/Pettis. That was going to be a razor-thin decision for Ben before the kick heard round the world to push Pettis in the decision. Epic fight. Thanks man.
I like Guida vs Huerta
Guida/Huerta was a war for sure…
yeah, Guida vs Huerta… awesome fight
UFC should bring Huerta back, the dude was always entertaining
edgar vs maynard 2?
Its gotta be between the Griffin-Bonnar fight at the end of TUF or Shogun-Henderson…both incredible fights!
I can’t believe you guys can forget Tito Ortiz vs Frank Shamrock and Diego Sanchez vs Karo Parisyan
I agree with Sanchez vs Parisyan, also like Hughes Trigg 2. Best fight ever is hard 2 call. The slow 5th (even though Shogun had mount 4 5 min) is the only thing I did’nt like about Shogun/Henderson, still a great fight.
Shogun vs Hendo was a slugfest. It was a whole different experience to see it live! Please come back to my neck of da woods Dana. And rematch them or give Hendo to Rashad and put Shogun with Rampage in Japan. TEAM PENN!!!!!!
Fellas, Leonard Garcia vs. Roger Huerta I. ‘Nough said………
yeah man i forgot about that fight that is probably but on the list def. hendo v.s. shogun
Stout vs. Fisher 2.
man i would love to see them do this poll over with like 15-20 options id love to see those results cuz i think diaz v.s. penn should be on there heurta v.s. garcia a lot more to please do this over bjpenn.com
Tim Credeur and Nate Quarry was one hell of a fight……imo
Word! That fight was epic
greatest fight in mma history was monson vs fedor
hahahah, nice.
lol!!
What about Penn vs Hughes I……everybody thought B.J was overmatched but he pulled the submission for the win. Not the BEST UFC fight, but that was an awesome fight.
Chuck vs. Randy, Pete Sell vs. Scott Smith, Frank Trigg vs. Matt Hughes, BJ vs. Hughes, Korean Zombie vs. Leonard Garcia were also great fights!
Pat Barry vs Cheick Congo?
I was gonna say Korean Zombie vs Leonard Garcia as well but the thread title was greatest “UFC” fight.
But that was badass on UFC Fight night to be the first to pull a twister in the UFC!?!
No one ever seems to think of Bj vs Sanchez, granted it was a one sided beating from Bj still a true representation of his greatness
True. BJ’s greatness. But not exactly a great fight all around. Like you said, one sided. And I think most were expecting that. I was. But can’t take away from Sanchez. He’s a beast. Wouldn’t stop fighting. Great fights to me are the ones where I’m standing up the last 2 rounds and can’t sit still cuz the fight is so close, and they are just wailing at each other, or transition after transition, reversal after reversals. Man, I just get excited thinking about it. It’s a human chess match. Especially when you can see what each fighter is wanting to do, or setting up to do, then you see the other guy realize what his opponent is trying to do, and does his own things to counter, and then his opponent sees that… Man! Those are the great fights.
Godzilla Vs. King Ghidora anyone?
Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla.
Not a fan of Hughes, But I have to say Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg the come back was just Glorius.
Lots of good fights mentioned so far, but one of my favorites is leben vs Akiyama. That fight had it all.
Yo Leben vsTerry Martin was dope
Pat Barry vs Cheick Kongo was Insane
GSP vs Penn 1 was BAllin
Know what’s going to be a good fight? When GSP actually finishes fights again. Don’t care who it is. But the fact he would finish his opponent would make it exciting. But i have to say in my opinion the greatest fight in UFC history was Junior vs Cain by numbers, but Couture vs Liddell 2 by excitement
Pleeeaaase! GSPs last fights were off the hook. Always enjoy seeing beat on his opponents. Sure it’d be nice to see him finish fights again. But his dominance over his opponents, is still a fun thing to watch. And before anyone starts flaming about laying and praying, go watch those fights again. And I guarantee you, there’s not much laying and praying on GSPs part. He’s too busy throwing punches and kicks standing, or elbows and knees on the ground. Don’t forget keeping busy also with sub attempts.
Like Dana says too, to him, it doesn’t matter if the fight doesn’t get finished, as long as battle is fought and the war is won. And you can see it in both fighters. I’ll take those over quick KO’s and subs any day.
shawn stop being in denial. dominated shields? gtfoh.
I think you are a bit off-point. The greatest fights are the close ones, the wars, not the lopsided ones. GSP vs. BJ I was a good one.
many great fights but #1 Lidel vs Silva
Leonard Garcia vs Nam Phan II… EPIC
Not UFC but for mma fight period I got Fedor v. CroCop..
2nd..
Bj v Diego was insane too!
There are a few fights that shoulda been on that list that aren’t.. My top 5
Rua vs Henderson
Sanchez vs Guida
Edgar vs Maynard 2
Faber vs Cruz 2
Liddell vs Wanderlei
I think there should be a couple on there as well like bj penn vs diego sanchez, and matt brown vs pete sell
Rampage vs Griffin was a good fight aswell, i have not seen that one mentioned so far!
It’s just cool to look at ALL the fights and fighters mentioned by the fans on this poll. So many great fighters and great fights. How about Kimo vs Royce Gracie?
Couture x Minoutauro, also a very good one
Guida vs Huerta
UFC should bring Huerta back
huerta vs garcia was epic too
Penn vs Hughes 2 for pure excitement.
Chuck vs wanderlei
THe one fight that brought mma to main stream. Forrest vs Bonnar. Best ever
There is really very little to argue with as far as Bonnar vs Griffin.
Clay Guida vs. Diego Sanchez – When Clay caught that kick from Diego, got knocked out cold, but kept fighting – man that is the stuff of legends.
How about pride Wanderlei vs jackson remember that one allways
Sanchez v kampmann was a good fight
Sanchez/Kampmann was a GREAT fight! You notice how many times Diego is mentioned!
UFC:
Lidell/Wandy, Shogun/Hendo, Phan/Garcia II, Sanchez/Guida, Sanchez/Kampmann, Franklin/Wandy, Leben/Akiyama, Edgar/Maynard II, Diaz/Penn, Nogueira/Couture, I’m sure there are more I’m forgetting.
MMA:
Alvarez/Chandler, Wandy/Rampage, Shogun/Coleman, so many more that I can’t even remember lol
Dos Santos- Velasquez on Fox……….****ing Joke!Q!!!
Guida vs Sanchez was good and kampman vs Sanchez and penn vs Sanchez lol Diego is just exciting
Penn vs Diego or guida vs huerta or forestgump vs bonnar these are my top 3 not sure in which order but penns been in some badass brawls
Griffin vs Edgar was also a great fight.
Nik Lentz vs Andre Winner for sure. surprised that wasnt an option it was an all out war on spike TV.
/ Poll.
they should of put royce vs kimo as a choice not the greatest but got to give love to the old school guys
Haven’t seen that one but Royce vs Sakuraba was boring….
Diego vs Diaz and Diego vs Karo too..Diego puts on great fights man!
Fitch vs. anybody. best shit ever…
Fitch vs GSP weren’t bad dude.. was an exciting fight for both of those dudes..note to Joe Silva match up two boring dudes together or two wrasslers you get an ok fight.
But BY FAR the greatest fight of all time has to be..Gabe Gonzaga vs Kevin ‘the shaman’ Jordan!!
Every fight people have commented on were great battles. It is crazy how many epic fights the ufc/wec has had.
Hughes v Trigg 2 is another one..
Am I the only person who saw Sam Stout vs Spencer Fisher 2???? That was the shit.
They really have to let this whole Hendo vs Rua thing go all that fight showed was why neither fighter will ever be champ. They both were gassed out too tired to finish. yea they showed lots of heart but the fight was nothing special
Get off that Jon Jones Kool-Aid!
Penn vs Stevenson, Penn vs Sanchez, Aldo vs Hominick, the one fight where the dude from TUF, the one Bisping won, with the blue hair or something got super bloody but still kept pushing forward,
I got the chills from seeing Chris Lyttle subbing Dan Hardy and walking away from MMa. Such an awesom guy and is truly missed in the sport. Wish more were doing what he did!
yeah that was a good fight. Dan Hardy’s ground game is awful.
Not for nothing, The Clay Guida vs Ben Henderson fight was pretty damned good too
This survey is biased just because most of the people voting doesn’t even remember the other fights, or they just didn’t watch them…
I was on the floor for Hendo Shogun and that was the best live fight iever I lost all control.. That being said I don’t know if there is greatest fight ever. This sport is still a baby and as it grows it will just get crazier and crazier and I am down for that ride!!! I might try to come up with a top ten but no order
People are only saying the Hendo vs Shogun fight because they just saw it. Also, where’s Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard 2?
Frank Shamrock vs Tito Ortiz
Seems like ppl think that UFC only been aired for 2 years and that’s a shame.
Tito Ortiz vs. Frank Shamrock – best UFC fight ever.
it really just was not
Whats about the 2 Bonnar/Soszcynski fights?
And where is Nam Phan vs Leonard Garcia 1 & 2?
Diaz vs Penn?
Griffin vs Ortiz?
Griffin vs Jackson?
I’d think the greatest fight ever would have to have had some significant impact on a championship situation (Randy Couture vs. Tim Sylvia, either GSP vs. BJ fight, etc.) or be super important for the sport (Griffin vs. Bonnar). Saying, just to pick one example, that Sanchez vs. Kampmann was the greastest fight ever is like saying a game between Ray Allen’s Bucks and Tracy McGrady’s Magic in the first round of the playoffs was the greatest NBA game of all time.
Diaz vs Penn
Nick Diaz vs Diego Sanchez. bjj vs wrestling at its best
I honestly cannot believe that anyone could say that the best fight is not Forrest and Stephan. I say that being a huge MMA fan, Hendo and Shogun no doubt # 2 best ever. That fight did not change the MMA world forever, nor did it make being a fighter a viable means to provide for a family. Those facts alone not only make it the best but think of the build up, Forrest quiet pretty much through all of TUF 1 but during his fights proved to be a Warrior. Stephan Bonnar taking out Bobby S. and surving that deep choke to be the finalist. Dude that was a build up which promised to be a slugfest, and delivered. Shogun and Henderson both Pride icons meeting and delivering was awesome easily fight of the year but it didnt have the wow factor of the TUF finale. Just my opinion as a humble fan.
how about Rich Franklin vs Wanderlie Silva man that was a great fight!! especially at the end when wandy and rich were just hitting each other at the last seconds of the third round!
There are really two many fights-great fights to choose from.
Man silva vs sonnen is a great fight from the start of the bell the strike from one another the ground game was very amazing and Silva ending it with a trangle arm bar at the 5TH ROUND!!!!
I saw everyone of those live and Hendo vs Shogun was definately the best. One of the best fights ever (If Not). I’m wondering why Penn VS Diaz isn’t on there. That was a damn good fight.
Meh biased poll is biased. you ask a question like this, so soon after an epic battle as the one we had with shogun and hendo, chances are that simply because it is fresh in people’s minds.. it will win.
I dunno, personal opinion, Griffin v bonnar made this sport what it is today.. without that one fight, none of the ones after may have happened at all.
it’s the griffin bonnar fight for sure. that’s the fight that REDEFINED MMA.
Lesnar vs Carwin is the best to me.
huerta vs garcia
Nick Diaz vs The Heat
Just watched all the options and can’t go past chuck liddell and wandelei silva. Awesome
Shouldn’t this be titled poor list of great main events because other than maybe the Hendo – Shogun fight I don’t know that one of them would make a top 10 list of all time UFC fights.
Are you high?
The Hendo vs Shogun was already a legendary fight before the cage closed. That was a contest people had wanted to see a long time ago. There really were some awesome moments in that match but, I think it’s the men’s histories that really put this fight over the top as far as the best UFC match of all time. Not too many hall of famers meet up on a regular basis. Not enough legends cross paths while they’re still in title contender shape.
