Weidman: Anderson Silva Would Be A Fool Not To Respect Me

“I’ve been dreaming about this fight with Anderson Silva since I started MMA.

He makes you pay for any mistakes you make. He’s opportunistic. Probably his biggest threat is his confidence. You make one mistake…he’s in there to win, and so I am. He’s a great champion for a reason, but he knows I’m a really mad matchup and that I’m a tougher opponent than some people might understand.

I’m a pressure based fighter. I’m going to be walking forward, using my length, and mixing it up between my takedowns and my punches. You know, I’m not going to be going backwards too much.

He’d be a fool not to respect me as a fighter. On July 6th, when we step into that cage, he’s going to have respect for me.”

Yes, walk forward with him, he’s gonna kill you. I dont understand all the hype behind this, its gonna be an easy W for Silva.

  2. Renzo Jimenez says:

And this is when i decide to spend 60$ on pay-per-view only to see Silva knock out Weidman in the first. Can’t wait!

  3. I still don't get it.. says:

I never even fucking heard of this guy until his Mark Munoz fight.

He is all hype… period.. I really think they should of had him face a top 5 guy first. Someone like Vitor or Bisping…

    • Dee says:

It’s BS the guy literally avoided fighting a top ten guy. He was called out by Belcher, Bisping and Vitor and he managed to fight for the title without even looking at them. All the top guys in the division faced last year, but this guy managed to avoid them. It’s BS.

  4. 123 says:

i agree, everyone els has been fighting & he’s not.. i think he’s got a good chance of winning though, & even though Belfort has probably done enough for the next title shot i think the UFC should make Bisping vs Belfort 2 here in England for a no1 contender fight.

  5. GRT 3000 says:

You whined your way into a shot, whatever bud… the GOAT is going to kick your ass back to where you should be in the division; fighting top 5er’s and EARNING the shot.

  6. Wrastling Sucks says:

I wanted to bag Weidman out but looks like it’s all been said already

  7. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

He hasn’t got what it takes to beat Silva. Who has he beaten to legitimize the hype? Maia after a bullshit decision? Munoz who isn’t champ material to begin with and wasn’t in shape? Those were the only somewhat notable names in MMA. The rest isn’t even worth mentioning.

No Silva is going to beat this chump up and send him back in line, to where he belongs.

  8. Dddddddd says:

Has anyone ever noticed that Anderson’s takedown defense against a guy with wrestling at this level sucks? Once again,
if everyone Anderson faces sucks, does his legacy mean anything? All I ever hear is how they all suck or don’t deserve to fight him. It’s one thing to talk up your favorite fighter but its another to undermine their legacy by believing everyone they face is undeserving and under qualified. This guy has kicked everyone’s ass he’s faced and to say he has fought nobody just exposes how much Anderson fans really know. This dude is so strong it’s insane and he puts together his wrestling with additional techniques really well. Anderson is absolutely the man to beat but not realizing Weidman has a chance is delusional. If Weidman takes him down and gets in a dominant position it’s not gonna be like Chael it’s gonna be violent. Weidman is the new type of fighter that puts it all together really well. Anderson is a fantastic stand up fighter that has not evolved his wrestling or takedown defense.
Anderson owns the octagon and I know this but Weidmans not the type of guy that is going to be charmed into Andersons element. The common fight they have is Damian and Weidman took it on short notice and kicked his ass so bad that he ran him out of the weight class. Anderson did not make him feel this inferior with a full training camp and proper weight cut. I understand why people think Anderson will win but I don’t understand what good it does for him to not understand how his opponent can win. These guys are both at the top of the class and I can’t be anymore excited for this match.

    • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

That fight against Maia was one of the most boring lay n pray fests I ever seen and the decision was highly questionable, Weidman didn’t run him out the weightclass, Weidman needed incompetent judges to steal a win from somebody who belonged in a lighter weightclass…And Anderson did not make Maia feel inferior? Did you even see that fight? Did you not see how he played with him?

    • Car Dee Oh says:

      Nice try, Chris.

    • Ddddddddumb says:

yeah, dis guy is passionate but still Ddddddddumb.
you didn’t see the Weidman/Maia fight did you? it had to be the most boring fight. Weidman didn’t kick anybody’s ass that night. Granted Weidman said he cut 30 lbs in a week and a half, which is nuts! But it showed that he is a driven fighter.
Weidman may be blowing his load too soon with all the talk. He was vicious against Munoz, but fans are critical of his title shot because he really hasn’t had the fights you’d expect to have before fighting for the belt. But criticism should be aimed at the UFC, not Weidman.

  9. dazza says:

we’ve heard all this crap before.anderson will be
great.sure the guy is tough.but anderson seem’s to shift to another gear that other fighter’s,only wish they had, when in comes to the crunch.

  10. MJ says:

I’d like to see Vitor and Anderson do it again. Problem is, Anderson won the first and Vitor is dangerous. Dont think it will happen
