Wednesday on BJPenn.Com Radio: Mark Hunt, Manny Gamburyan, Jim Miller & Mike Dolce
After one of their more entertaining shows ever, thanks to the charismatic Bear Frazer and great interviews from Gilbert Melendez and Urijah Faber hosts Mitch Ciccarelli and Bryan Levick are back again this Wednesday night at 8pm eastern. This week your hosts will talk to three exciting fighters and the man who is credited with teaching many of today’s top mixed martial artists a healthier way to cut weight.
“The Super Samoan” Mark Hunt will kick things off and talk about his upcoming bout against Stefan Struve at UFC on Fuel TV 8 on March 3 in Japan. This will be sort of a homecoming for Hunt who spent many years fighting for K-1 and Pride in Japan. Since dropping his UFC debut to Sean McCorkle at UFC 119 in September of 2010, Hunt has won three straight fights. He was last seen knocking Cheick Kongo out at UFC 144 which coincidentally enough also took place in Japan in February of last year. He was scheduled to face Struve at UFC 146, but was injured and has been out of action since.
UFC featherweight Manny Gamburyan will call in after Hunt. The former WEC featherweight number one contender ended a three fight losing streak with a unanimous decision victory over Michihiro Omigawa at UFC on Fox: Shogun vs. Vera in August. Gamburyan made it to the finals of The Ultimate Fighter season 5, but lost to Nate Diaz via TKO after he suffered a shoulder injury. His cousin is former UFC welterweight Karo Parisyan who has fallen on hard times in recent years. Gamburyan will face Chad Mendes at UFC 157 on February 23.
Fresh off what many feel was the 2012 Fight of the Year against Joe Lauzon, top UFC lightweight Jim Miller will talk about the amazing battle he had with Lauzon at UFC 159 and when we can expect to see him back in action. Miller was coming off a loss to Nate Diaz at UFC on Fox 3 in March, a loss that saw him get finished for the first time in 25 career fights. He is the younger brother of UFC welterweight Dan Miller who will be facing Jordan Mein at UFC 158 in March.
When you talk about weight cutting you can not have a conversation without including the name of our last guest. Mike Dolce has become the go to guy for many of today’s top stars. Dolce has helped guys like Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, Thiago Alves, Jake Ellenberger and Johny Hendricks, just to name a few. He has written books and the UFC is looking to hire him to help Cyborg Santos make the drop to 135lbs so she can face Ronda Rousey.
