Wednesday Night on BJPenn.Com Radio: KJ Noons, Ian McCall, Josh Janousek, Vladimir Matyushenko
BJPenn.Com Radio is back on Wednesday night beginning at 8pm eastern. This week hosts Bryan Levick and Mitch Ciccarelli will speak to three fighters who all have big fights coming up and one fighter who fought on the last Strikeforce card ever and by all accounts was robbed of a victory.
Kicking things off will be the always interesting Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall. The 28-year-old flyweight will face Joseph Benavidez at UFC 156 on February 2nd in Las Vegas. McCall is coming off a decision loss to current UFC Flyweight Champiuon Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. Those two actually fought twice, but their first meeting was marred by controversy and the bout was originally awarded to Johnson via majority decision, but was later overturned to a majority draw. If the scoring had been correct the first time, the bout would’ve gone to a sudden death fourth round. McCall will discuss this Saturday night’s bout between Johnson and his opponent John Dodson which will occupy the main event slot of UFC on Fox 6.
Alchemist Management fighter Vladimir Matyushenko will step inside the Octagon for the first time on Saturday night as he faces TUF season 8 winner Ryan Bader. Matyushenko was last seen at UFC 141 last December taking on top light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson. Unfortunately things didn’t go “The Janitor’s” way as he lost via 1st round TKO. He was scheduled to face Matt Hamill at UFC 152 this past December, but he was forced out due to a partially torn achilles tendon. At 42-years-old we may be seeing the end of what has been an exciting career for Matyushenko.
Promotional newcomer Josh Janousek is stepping in on short notice to face Michael Kuiper at UFC on Fox 6. Janousek is JUCO national wrestling champion and four-time Division II All-American wrestler who was brought in by Junior Dos Santos to help prepare him for his first bout with Cain Velasquez. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira also had Janousek in his camp when he was preparing to face Brendan Schaub at UFC 134 in Brazil in August of 2011. Janousek has a career record of 8-1 and is currently training with Ray Thompson at Pitch Black MMA/Upstate Karate in South Carolina.
Also joining the show will be former EliteXC Lightweight Champion K.J. Noons who is coming off a highly controversial loss to Ryan Couture on the last ever Strikeforce card on January 12th in Oklahoma. The two men waged a fantastic battle for three rounds, but at the end of the fight it was evident that Noons had done enough to secure the victory. He was able to thwart all of Couture’s takedown attempts and landed more strikes in all three rounds. Despite the loss fans can expect to see Noons inside the Octagon before the summer.
