Wanderlei Silva's father killed in car accident | MMA News

Sad news out of Brazil today, as it has been reported that Holando Pinheiro da Silva (Father of MMA legend Wanderlei Silva) was killed in a car accident yesterday afternoon.
The accident apparently took place in the region of Castro, where Holando owned a ranch. The car Silva was in collided head on with another car, the driver of which also died on impact. A child was also severely injured and taken to hospital.
Wanderlei was informed of his father’s passing by family members who called him in Las Vegas. Wanderlei is expected to arrive in Brazil today for the burial.
Holando was always extremely supportive of his sons mixed martial arts career and has been quoted as saying that Wanderlei was “Bringing pride to all of Brazil.”
Many mixed martials artists and fans have taken to twitter to send their condolences to the former Pride Middleweight Champion.
Wanderlei released the following statement (Originally in Portuguese) via twitter:
“I haven’t the words to thank you all for your support. We end up not knowing what to do, but it’s at times like this that we know who is on our side. Thank you very much,”

losing a parent is the hardest thing a person can ever go through.my mom passed away last July from cancer and I just can’t explain the pain.i miss her so much……I know what wanderlei is going thru and I just wish him the best and I am very sorry for his loss.the only thing I can say is wanderlei keep enjoying ur life and be happy cause I’m sure that’s what ur father would want.keep ur head up wanderlei…from one of ur biggest fans.

Rest in peace. My prayers and thoughts go out to Wanderlai and his family. None of you guys have said this but I wish the baby in the accident is okay and that he/she will make a full recovery as soon as possible. Very sad news to hear I hope we can still see one last fight from Wanderlai.
