Vitor: Mousasi Hasn’t Earned The Right To Fight Me

“If you want to fight Vitor Belfort, you have to earn it. It’s just like if you want to play someone in the quarter or semi finals – you cannot just because you won something a long time ago. No, you have to earn your spot.

“I don’t like it how people are using Twitter trying [to get opponents]. I want to fight for the belt — that’s my goal. That’s the goal of a fighter, that’s the goal of an athlete in the UFC. That’s the goal of Vitor Belfort — I’m a winner, I’m a champion. That’s what I want, that’s what I’m fighting for. I’ve been proving, I’ve been earning, so the only thing I see next for me is fights that will bring me up…

“This is division [is full] of great athletes. If Mousasi wants to fight someone, go fight Luke Rockhold, go fight Michael Bisping. He has to prove himself, that’s how it is in this sport, you have to earn it. If you want something, earn it, and I did.”

In a recent interview with, Vitor Belfort responds to the call-outs coming from Gegard Mousasi.

  1. GRT 3000 says:

he’s right, but that doesn’t seem to matter in the UFC these days. I mean, Weidman is getting a shot right now & hasn’t had to prove anything in the top 5 at MW. it’s brutal what cheese-head Sonnen opened up in the media.

  2. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

Vitor does fully understand he is not the champion right? He is a contender and Mousasi is a contender as well. It’s custom for contenders to fight eachother so I don’t know what he is talking about.

    • The King says:

The difference is, Vitor is a middleweight fighter, and Gegard is a LHW fighter. Why should he, a higher ranked fighter, go outside of his weightclass for a pointless fight, when his end goal is a rematch with Anderson.

      • The King is dead says:

He is both a middleweight and a light-heavyweight fighter and is not the champ in either division. Who the fuck is he to turn down a fight? Does he not have enough time to get the extra testosterone out of his system so he passes his drug test? Give me a fucking break. Fuck Vitor and his ‘roided jesus freak ass.

      • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

There is no difference cause Vitor recently fought for the LHW belt against Jones. And Mousasi is dropping to MW by the way.

        • Calvin says:

you said it best unintentionally vitor got the lhw shot for no damn reason! and mousasi is dropping down a weight class and he’s a beast at lhw as it is

  3. Sasquatch says:

This is uncharactoristic for Vitor.. he knows the threat Gegard poises to his shot at the belt.

    • GRT 3000 says:

how’s that? when he decisioned’ that can in Stockholm? is that how it works now – go the distance with a called up card saver & start vying for the belt?! Vitor is knocking on the door & Gegard has allot more to prove before he starts playing the UFC big wheel imo. your MMA knowledge needs work big guy.

      • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

Mousasi went in there with a bum knee to save the card and went under surgery right after the fight. He couldn’t use his kicks so he only had his hands.

      • Sasquatch says:

Do I have to take you to school again… Gegard is former Dream LHW Champ, Dream MW Champ and Strikeforce LHW Champ. There’s more to MMA than just the UFC, I suggest getting a little more educated in MMA son.

      • GRT 3000 says:

…give em’ Vitor then, & see what happens.

& @Cumquatch, don’t talk educated to me you f(u)ckin’ half-wit. ….uncharactoristic, and poises he says (moron) it’s occurred to me that you’re a dumb-ass – I only joust with players of strong mind.

        • Sasquatch says:

I’ll talk any way I want to you sh!t kid because your MMA knowledge is inferior to most people on this site and you know it.. that’s why your vagina is all tied up in a knot b!tch. There’s more to MMA then the UFC retard.. I guess seeing as how you just started watching it you don’t know any better. I don’t know why I even bother wasting my time with you newbies. smh

        • Sasquatch says:

You know when I come to think about it this isn’t uncharacteristic of Victor, he ducked Gegard once before under the Affliction banner.. not that you would know what that is seeing how your new to the sport and all.

        • GRT 3000 says:

like i said, stfu! Lol. Smh tool-BAG namedrops mma orgs & thinks hes a f***kin professor. You really are a dumbass @cumquatch.

Plenty of decorated ufc fighters shitbird – only a handful amounted to anything. Shields, diaz, rockhold, overeem blah blah. In fact overeem has all the same credentials u namedropped, yah fuckin wizard you. All im saying is tht gegard fought a can like you & squeaked by. Hes got work to do…those other belts havnt proved to mean shit at top 5 in the ufc. WEC is the only one makin a case. Fuck your a stupid shit. Piss off already. Lol

        • Sasquatch says:

Your lack of MMA knowledge is more apparent with ever comment you make sh!t kid.

        • GRT 3000 says:

Just the opposite pal…you’re extremely weak.

  4. shoyuken says:

A threat ROFL! Gegard barely beat Keith Jardine, dudes over rated.

  5. Ddddddd says:

I hate to say I don’t feel bad for someone that’s looking for the easy way up in his own way. But I don’t. Vitor has so much baggage at this point I don’t see how the UFC can benefit from his tainted success. I’m not hating I’m just saying his last two knockouts were sensational and yet they made me feel so dirty I had to wash my hands. I might bitch about Anderson at times but one thing is for sure,Anderson and Gegard are true, clean warriors and deserve to fight if Gegard can make it.

  6. JorgeSaintPier says:

Vitor by first round KO. Mousasi ain’t much. TRT Vitor will spank him and send him back to armenia with a broken jaw and broken pride.

  7. 757 says:

GRT3000 is correct. Vitor has earned his spot and over the years has been in allot of big shows. He fought the best of his time early on and is fighting the top level guys now. I would personally like to see the fight but I understand his point about fighting your way up. He did it before and he has been fighting and winning again since his fight with AS trying to get back there.

  8. MJ says:

Vitor was offered to take the Jon Jones fight on short notice, he didnt start a twitter war to get it. He didnt duck GM in the past, he said if you want to fight..come to my weight. Vitor has finished all but two of his last 7 if Im correct. Those two were losses to the GOAT Silva and maybe the next Jon Jones. Its a lose lose for a 36yo to fight guy ranked so low. However I would like to see Gegard do that chin out stance against Belfort :)

    • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

A guy ranked so low? Mousasi is 9th on the LHW list, when he makes the drop to MW I’m sure he will be top 10 too. That makes him a contender who has the right to fight other contenders.

  9. KIDD433 says:

Vitor’s coming off two brutal KO’s. One against a top contender, and the other a champion. He’s #1 contender at 185, I know Mousasi has been around a long time.A former champ as well, but he’s looked like shit in his last few fights. And didn’t impress anybody on his octagon debut. He’s going to have to prove himself top ten,let alone to call out a #1 contender in a different division. And this is coming from a Mousasi fan.

    • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

I think he did well going in that fight with a severe injury. He didn’t want to let UFC down and fought through it, that’s why he didn’t kick as much as usual. I saw Mousasi at a muay thai/mma event recently in Holland and he looks in good shape. He’s not going to have trouble making the drop to 185 and I think he’s going to make waves.
