VIDEO | Jones & Evans Go Head To Head About Their Friendship, Teams And Fight

Former training partners Jon “Bones” Jones and Rashad Evans engage in a war of words before their war in the Octagon at UFC 145 in Part 1 of Counterpunch. UFC Ultimate Insider host Jon Anik moderates a gentlemanly debate that quickly escalates into heated verbal combat.

  1. Xaninho says:

They color coördinated their outfits lmao!

  2. TheCyndicate says:

I’m sorry, but Rashad is right, he did help make Jackson. I honestly think Jackson is a fraud, but that’s just me.

    • jc says:

rashad schooled jones in this interview

      • Alex Daas says:

        Most definitely.

It really is something watching Jones slowly but surely become just a man. Machida made him flinch, now Rashad’s made him stumble… I got Rashad winning this fight.

  3. Justen says:

    Jones is gunna kill him.

  4. banks says:

Ya jackson is a great trainer but to me he comes off as a douche

  5. Evol Advocate says:

Rashad son’d jones with the history check.

  6. Xaninho says:

    Jones looked uncomfortable.

    • Gomay says:

He looks like he’s trying to paint an aura of being the good guy.. ohh i do this with the kids etc.. fuck does that have to do with you fighting? How do you know Rashad hasn’t did anything either.

      • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Jones should just be himself. Not the role model he thinks he’s supposed to be. Every time he talks all I hear is the sound of a white flag waving. He doesn’t have an ounce of aggression or bass in his voice. Do any of you guys know how aggressive you have to be to grow up in a black household or neighborhood? I bet the real Jones is more like Rashad and Rampage than most people would believe.

I don’t even like Jones but the only reason I keep playing devils advocate is because I know he’s so naive.

        • CanILive says:

          Hahahahaha that’s hilarious

        • Xaninho says:

When the camera’s are off Jones is more like this>>

        • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

          Haha that made my day.

“You put me in a movie where I’m the star.. I’m a kick ya ass…”

        • Turkeykneck fun chav says:

yeah lol, i agree. hes trying too hard
actually this interview was interesting, if you watch jones face its like hes trying to stop himself from snapping and hulk smashing Anik into rashad.
but ufc have him by the balls, im pretty certain hes being told to behave. all is not what it seems

  7. Xaninho says:

And Jones is saying his stand-up is better, well it isn’t he is lucky he has freakishly long limbs.

But Evans’ stand-up has really improved lately. I’m certain Tyrone Spong has had a hand in that.

    • squid says:

yeah its mainly because of jones long ass reach that he can pull off all that other crazy shit he does. but, i will admit he knows how to use it well unlike some other fighters . . .

    • Dude... says:

Xanin, Rashad got ktfo because he thought his stand up was strong. What did he do after that? Went back to his wrestling base. Rashad uses his stand up to set up his wrestling take down, he changed his approach. But his stand up hasn’t improved, more like he uses it as a tool to take down his opponent (Silva, Rampage, Tito, and even Davis). He’s fighting smarter and relying on his wrestling more than stand up.

      • Xaninho says:

His fight against Phil Davis was a stand-up performance dude. Only 4 takedown attempts of which he succeeded 3 times in 5 rounds. He outstruck Phil Davis and it looked good, I could see he worked on his stand-up. It looked pretty crisp.

  8. Ronnin says:

Shut up and fight. Cant stand this 2 assholes

  9. SRK says:

jones lost bhis cool there at the end haha

  10. HyLyfe808 says:

It’s funny how the UFC insider can bring two guys that are going to fight each other in the same room and not expect it to get heated.

I bet they can’t get Nick Diaz (if he’s still fighting) to do an interview like that on UFC Insider.

  11. pthance says:

I see fear in Jones eyes, and malice in Rashad’s. Jones is gonna fail hard.

    • Turkeykneck fun chav says:

nah, i see contempt in jones and Anger/envy in rashad like rashad is but hurt spoiled child.

thing is though its usually the spoiled brat that wins, rashad may well have this as he has a psychological advantage

  12. Gomay says:

I remember Shogun latching onto Jones back a couple of times during their fight..mainly because of Jones recklessness if he f8cks up like that during this fight Rashad will take him down. Shogun couldnt’ because his wrestling isn’t up to par. He mentioned Phil wrestled Rashad but in actuality Phil didn’t really have a choice and the only reason he got out of those crucifixes was due to pure strength.. if Jones doesn’t work his inside game he’s going to get worked..and yea Jackson is a cornball. He plays loyal but he’s faker than Star Trek Season 1

  13. Cole says:

    f$%k jon jones

  14. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

You can tell that Rashad mentored Jones the way they speak to each other.

I can see how Rashad is upset. It’s like when a relative visits from out of town and your parents kick you out of your bed so the relative can have somewhere to sleep. That would piss me off too in fact it has. ^^

Rashad also has to recognize that history is only a second ago. Jones/Condit are the “new” history of Greg Jackson’s gym. Rashad/GSP are the ancient history of the Greg Jackson gym. It’s a pretty stupid argument for both of them to have.

Jones seems mentally unstable trying to keep up with this persona. Why the hell is Jones talking about people/kids who love him? Quit making it all about you when you two are talking about Greg Jackson. Be a man and grow some balls Jones! When he told Rashad he was at the end of his career I felt like we really got to see the real Jones. I like it.

And quit saying sir. How old are you?

    • Turkeykneck fun chav says:

again i agree with you 100%

just at the end you saw jones switching, thats the real him. he gave up trying to hide behind it.
you know what too, didnt seem too cocky, seemed like he was actually like “wtf dumb n1gguh im gonna kick your fucking ass and make you retire”

he should stay with that, people would respect him for it

  15. NUVARING says:

Jones is a great person. Shame on all of you for hating him for no reason. Rashad is going to be his biggest test yet but I still don’t see Jones losing. What happens if Jon destroys Rashad? Who will he fight next?

    • Turkeykneck fun chav says:

i dont hate jones, i want him to win as he is actually an awesome fighter and thats what i watch ufc for, awesome fights

however there is something not right with his behviour. people keep saying cocky this and cocky that but its not. all goood fighters are cocky
its the fakeness and what we are seeing is a periodic breakdown of his “mr perfect nice boy” persona and his attempts to keep it up.
he should just be himself and he wouldnt have these problems.

I mean no one is doubting the good he does for people whether its charity work, stopping a mugger the day of his campionship fight, depraved children. no one at all, not even rashad.

he is being scripted somewhere and im pretty certain is the UFC doing it as jones is impressionable and being overwealmed by it all (hes said it himself)
all this Ali shit isnt jones, its UFC. Dana did it posting it everywhere on twitter, UFC magazine making him do the shots and Jones didnt even realise it was Ali style till they told him. Even then he wanted to do Kicks underwater and they took a boxing stance for the cover print.

He needs to tell them to fuck off and be his own person rather than a puppet.
people need to help him rather than bash him. he needs it pointing out to him and Jacksons are just gonna use it for their own game and ufc are selling shit loads off this promo

  16. James says:

These guys are like a couple of bickering children. Jones definitely came off fake and douchey. Not saying he is, just saying that is how he appears. If he is this good acting in this manner I shudder to think what he could achieve if he was true to himself. Still rooting for Rashad though. I also could be one of the best things that could happen to Jones if he were to lose.

  17. Anti-Hater says:

Bottom line, Rashad tried to control the interview. Jones knew that he would, he’s a little shaky, but that’s because he knew he had to come out of a shell and take the interview away from Rashad.

Rashad’s only hope is the mind game, it’s obvious that Jones one way or another is refusing to give it to him. Bottom line, the last 30 seconds of the interview summed it up. It’s over for Rashad, and Jones will prove this.

Everyone is willing to talk smack (I don’t care about kids or Greg Jackson). But when it comes to money on the table, I have yet to find someone willing to put money behind their Rashad claims. That’s reality talking, the money. The smack still happens though.

    • Evol Advocate says:

With today’s UFC, and with common sense, I wouldn’t put money on any fight! I do want, and think Rashad can win this fight. I don’t need your money, I’ll just look you up after the 21st!

  18. Mike McMack says:

Jones is totally being fake, he and Jackson stabbed Rashad in the back and they know it. I think Jones is a great fighter and I think he’ll win when he and Rashad fight but it doesn’t change the fact that he f****d Rashad over to get where he is.

  19. ivannnnnnnnn says:

i love how he changed the subject to kids ahaha wow he got skooled so hes tryna paint himself as a good picture

  20. john says:

this looks like hbo boxing’s faceoff. first it was tuf ripping off the contender. then primetime ripping off 24/7. now this.

  21. Evol Advocate says:

He always starts talking about his mentoring lil kids, and community outreach when someone makes it clear that they question his persona. It’s his defense mechanism. You see it all the time, Rashad -“Jon your fake” Jon – “but kids love me” Rashad – “Your a fraud” Jon -“people always tell me, that I’m a good person, and I inspire 4 year old boys” It’s the same ol $hit with Jon.

  22. Jayric says:

So that’s why “HE” have a long introduction..

  23. Big Maple says:

did you all notice Suga got in his head at the end of the interview….thats one thing evans has one him is the mentel edge…..
