VIDEO | "Georgia On My Mind" Rashad Evans Trains With Boxing Great Roy Jones Jr

Number one UFC light heavyweight contender “Suga” Rashad Evans has Georgia on his mind as he arrives in Atlanta today for the final countdown to UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans. In five days, fight fans will discover the moment of truth in what has become one of the longest running sagas in the sport of MMA.

“One of the biggest things of my life that has happened to this date is that someone like Roy (Jones, Jr.) came in and gave me some pointers, and some advice,” said Evans. “Boxing and MMA is different in some respect, but at the same time, you can pick up little jewels that he is putting out there. This has become like Ali and Frazer training camp, wherever everybody is sitting and watching you, and watching….it is crazy.”

Produced and edited by Ryan Loco, “Georgia on my Mind” documents never before seen moments of Evans reflecting on the significance of this Saturday night, reveals a few surprise training partners, visitors as well as intimate thoughts on life as a professional athlete.

This guy has got a lot of emotion inside him. It’s going to be hard for Jones to conquer that.

  2. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Powerful stuff. I like the way they ended the video because this is a snapshot in time.

  3. Joey Grecko says:

Damn boxing greats love Evans. He’s gotten striking/boxing training from both Roy Jones Jr and Felix Trinada. I can feel a whole new Rashad will be bear crawling into the octogan.

Speaking of bearcrawling is Jones going to do that knowing that Evans was the originator of it.

I used to be a big Roy Jones Jr fan hoping for the Bernard Hopkins fight to happen when they both were in their prime but just like Rashad, he was too old and started losing at the end of his career. This will be Rashad’s worst beating ever and he will never be the same and he will end his career just like Roy did, chasing a belt that Father Time has so cruely passed them by! Good night Rashad because either by knock out or choke out, your crotch grabbing days are way behind you and you will go to sleep one way or the other!!!

RASHAD, You’ve become a very humble man, 22-1 in MMA, learned from your loss and became a wrestler, with nasty gnp like GSP. I’m glad that now you’ve got your mindset in that one day this will all be over, bc it will. You’re fearless and a true warrior. Best of luck and most of us are cheering for you, win or lose bring hell to that cocky asshole, brother. This war is Evans vs Gregg Jackson more than Jones

I’ve watched all of these and I really wish I would see him sparring some longer, taller dudes, getting used to setting his range up a little more. Now he will have to do it on the fly in the first round. I hope for an Evans victory here, Jones will be a great champion but he needs to be humbled first.
