Gary Goodridge

Back in the days of Pride Fighting Championship, spectacle fights between opponents with great size differences were rather common such as the 2003 fight between 5’9 lightweight Genki Sudo and Butterbean, which saw Sudo pick up the submission win.

In the video seen above, we take it back to 2005 where MMA legend Gary Goodridge stepped into the Pride FC ring with Russian Sumo wrestler Alan Karaev in a highly anticipated showdown.

As you can see in the video, Karaev quickly rushes Goodridge and takes him down. Ultimately, Goodridge manages to survive the brutal onslaught and secure a submission win of his own just three minutes into the fight. While the win extended Goodridge’s win streak to four, he then had his win streak snapped by Heath Herring in his next fight, almost exactly one year later.
