VIDEO | Chris Weidman Confused And Dissapointed At Silva vs. Bonnar Booking | UFC NEWS

A dejected Chris Weidman joined UFC Tonight analysts Kenny Florian and Todd Harris to breakdown UFC 153. Weidman was visibly upset by Anderson Silva’s recent actions and is seeking an explanation.

Here are some highlights: (Jump to page 2 for the full video interview)

“I was a little shocked and confused and a little disappointed. I had just ended up getting elbow surgery a week ago. As soon as I was done announcing my Boetsch fight, getting elbow surgery, the same week I find out that Silva is fighting Bonnar at UFC 153. You know it is tough, they are acting like he is doing a good deed, which is good, but it is a smart move on his part. It is definitely very calculated. He is going into a fight with odds I have never seen before, 14 to one. He is not a dummy. Anybody could lose, it is just that sport, but he is going to make a couple million dollars at odds I’ve never seen before. It is just disappointing for me. But, I just have to keep moving forward.”

“Yeah, as soon as I heard the news I was just shocked. This whole time he and his managers’ were dead set on not fighting until 2013. They didn’t give a reason, but they were set. I thought it was fishy that they picked up a fight like it’s no big deal and I’m being called the number-one contender. They are saying it is not a marketable fight because I don’t have a lot of fights. But, I am the number-one contender, he should fight me. It is what it is and there is nothing I can do about it. I am going to stay confident and the only thing I am thinking about is my fight against Tim Boetsch on December 29.”

“I don’t know. I just think I am definitely a big risk for him on paper. I am a good wrestler with good jiu jitsu and I don’t think he has seen anyone like me with my athleticism. On paper, I am a dead match for him. I think I am a tough challenge. I think his managers, more than him, are keeping him away from me. They want me to get more fights under my belt. They are not jumping with joy to have me fight Anderson.”

Silvas dodging you Chris! An impressive win over Boetsch should get you that title shot its all political UFC Bullsh*t. I’m pretty sure most fight fans would have sooner seen you VS Silva, then Silva VS Bonnar!

    • Sasquatch says:

Hell yeah!… I’d of much rather watched that scrap!

      • SinCe 2004 says:

Silva, more than any other fighter in mma history, deserves the respect of fight fans for all that he has done and THE WAY HE HAS DONE IT! … No other fighter nor champion for that matter can boast more finishes or consecutive wins or DOMINANCE… 6 years, 14 consecutive wins, 12 finishes, IN THE UFC!!! Learn some respect and recognize greatness. Silva isnt scared of chris weidman whose biggest win is against mark munoz whose biggest win is against chris leben.

      • Mike b says:

Fuck no!why??so he can lay on top of silva the whole damn fight.chaels a great wrestler so is Weidman,so he probably was gonna use the same game plan.bonnar will bring it to silva,he might get wrecked while doing it,but he makes for an exciting fight.

    • IknowMMA says:

Silva is not dodging anyone, are you kidding me he is taking more fights if anything this guy beat Nunos and now he thinks he is better than everyone ? Fight someone that matters T . B is not even a high profile fighter if you compare it with other middleweights (bisping, Sonnen, Stan, Vito… And the list goes on!) I think idiots trying to get the 1st comment and $#iting out of their mouth should just STFU and stop splashing everyone with nonsense.

      • UFC's PADDING HIS RECORD says:

He’s a fighter that with 1 win in the UFC got a title shot. a lot of his opponents have been trash less deserving then Weidman. I’m no Weidman Fan but Silva is Defntlly dodging that fight. all of a sudden Weidman gets booked and silva decided to take an easy fight against bonnar. I HOPE BONNAR KNocks the snot out of Your IDLE. He should Be fighting RASHAD at LHW but anderson knows whats good for him.

      • Sasquatch says:

What qualifications do you have that give you the right to sit there behind your computer and call people idiot’s and tell them to stop sh!ting out of their mouths just for stating their opinion?….. that’s right NONE, so practice what you’re preaching and STFU yourself!. The fact you have Stan on your list just proves you know nothing about MMA… you can go ahead and change your screen name to “Iknowf**kallaboutMMA” if you like.

    • Jujitsu Player says:

I wouldn’t, Bonnar’s style will make for a much more interesting fight….Weidman’s prospects of beating Silva are so overhyped. He’s about as exciting to watch as Jon Fitch…he didn’t look impressive against Maia and his Munoz fight was boring until he caught him…other than that who has he fought? He’ll get his chance and when he does he’ll get found out easily by Silva. IMO

  2. Sasquatch says:

He’s right about Silva’s managers keeping him away because Weidman IS a serious threat to Anderson’s belt.Team Silva as always picking and choosing guaranteed wins.

    • Jimmmmmmmmy says:

Sonnen would smash Weidman and look what anderson did to him the second time. Yes Chris has great wrestling and BJJ but you have to get the guy down first. Something Sonnen couldn’t do in the second round. Weidman can stare at his stats on paper all he wants, it will be a short fight with Anderson standing at the end.

      • Sasquatch says:

Opinions are like arse holes Jimmmmmmy….. Weidman has more tools then Sonnen (striking, jujitsu, explosiveness), the only thing Chael beats him at is wrestling and sh!t talking. It’s obvious Anderson’s camp respects or fears Wiedman, actions speak louder than words.

  3. BJC says:

Wweidmas num1 y? Oh yeah he isn’t he needs a few more fights

  4. Zack says:

Why is he still crying? If anyone deserves a title shot its bisping.

  5. Jeremy says:

So people are mad at Bones yet hailing Silva for doing almost the same thing? If you ask me Silva ducking a #1 contender looks worse. I’m a huge fan of both fighters but the public reaction to this stuff has been questionable at best

    • IknowMMA says:

Another idiot… he’s not fighting on his weight class till next year. He’s calling GSP out, what makes you think this guy is that important ? Or that he would be scared? Well he is not the top contender neither he has the amount of fights or wins necessary for a tittle shot. Check yourself because it’s just garbage coming out of your mouth. Moving away from your comfort zone in another weight is something to cheer for, bisping or Stan should get a shot, this guys need at least a couple more wins in my opinion.

  6. Bryan Fury85 says:

I think he’s whiny as hell and should wait his turn like everyone else had to to fight silva. One impressive win in the UFC doesn’t mean you’re entitled to a title shot. Fight, win and wait your turn, nobodies ducking you when you haven’t built a sufficient name.

  7. Cody says:

Dude I’m so fucking sick of this dude he beat Munoz off of a year layoff of major surgery and he deserves to fight the best fighter in the world Anderson just understands there’s no hype behind weidman really no average fan cares about him and hardcore fans know there r more deserving and exciting contenders like bisping even belcher and stann if he wins his fight

  8. Not You says:

Man, this kid needs to come back down to Earth, he poses no threat to Anderson. He’s a good wrestler with decent jiu jitsu. His boxing is pretty good too. I just don’t see how he thinks he’s going to go in and walk through Sivla.

  9. mean170 says:

This dude is whines like no other. Acting like it is his god-given right to fight for a title because he beat Damian Maia in the worst fight i’ve ever seen and looked good against a ring-rusted Mark Munoz. Want a title shot? Beat Bisping, Stann, Belcher, hell even Palharas. Bum.

  10. Bitch ass Greg J says:

Chris Weidman needs to just shut his mouth and just focusing on beating whoever is put in front of him. He’s already got Boetsch next and yet he’s still bitching about a date with the Spider. And then claiming that Anderson’s ducking him, could be a big mistake Chris. Be careful coz you just might get what you wish for. Demanding for this title shot and losing could be the end of a short run in the middleweight division.

  11. B-rad says:

He reminds me of a little kid that didnt get the toy he was begging for for christmas, He did this to himself when he turned down the Belfort fight, if he took that fight and won, there is no question he is the #1 contender but even if he rolls thru Boetch, he will proabably end up facing Bisping if he wins this weekend. So quit crying, you tried to cut the line and it didnt work, Now hes lookin at 2 fights before his shot instead of one.

  12. LOL says:

“Well, would you have fought Anderson at 205 meaning you wouldn’t get your sh*t title shot?” Kenny Florini

  13. A-Stripes says:

“Well, would you have fought Anderson at 205 meaning you wouldn’t get your sh*t title shot?” Kenny Florini

  14. Cheal says:

Remember guys anderson took this fight to save the card. And he got a chance to fight in his home country.

  15. Rob says:

Silva only got taken down easily in first fight with chael cuz he had broken ribs and chael was cheating , second fight silva tryed to knock chaels block off so he got the td, second round not one td. I hope silva ko this young buck, hopefully just like he did to Franklin via clinch !

  16. josh says:

STFU weidman. silva’s not dodging anybody. he’s already in brazil and healthy, so he volunteered to save the card by fighting. he doesn’t have to, but because it’s in brazil, it’s an honor for him. and the reason he’s not fighting at MW is because he said he wasn’t in shape and couldn’t make 185 on this short of notice. so he is fighting at 205. and bonnar is the only 205’er that stepped up. no conspiracies, just a ballsy move to fight at a higher weight class against a much bigger fighter on short notice.
thumbs-up for silva and bonnar, thumbs down to weidman for being a baby.

  17. Nick says:

I’m tired of Weidman. He talks to much. Just fight. I liked him for a while, but he just doesn’t shut up. He keeps complaining. Just go in fight and it will happen.

  18. Anderson Silva is G.O.A.T. says:

Ok idiots. First off, it was AS that stepped up and said I’ll take the fight boss. I will fight at 205 because I cannot make the cut on this short of notice. Stephan Bonner is the only fighter that stepped up to fight AS on such short notice. Secondly, do you really think AS is scared and ducking this clown when he is calling out arguably the second greatest fighter of all time, GSP. Finally, since when did AS ever duck a fight? The UFC gives him his fights and he goes through with them. What did he say about the Chael rematch? He didn’t want to fight Chael because he didn’t think Chael deserved a rematch after TRT and losing. But what did AS do anyway? Fought Chael. When will you guys stop with this ducking business? He has cleaned out the division. People think that this division is the weakest because AS makes all the other middleweights look like idiots when he fights them.

  19. A.silva says:

The reason I don’t want to fight u is because your a douchebag. Now what is your reason for ducking vitor?

  20. Xaninho says:

Weidman is not the #1. Beating a few nobodies do not propel a fighter to the #1 spot. EARN your spot first Weidman.

Weidman should shut the hell up and just fight who gets put in front of him, earn his spot and then get KTFO by Silva.

  21. DMAC says:

Munoz was a self proclaimed #1 contender first off. 2 fights before that no one heard of Weidman so the draw from casuals wouldn’t be huge. Personally I think Weidman poses a threat but if AS isn’t feeling it right now win another fight in spectacular fashion showing some consistency and UFC has no choice but to make it happen because the fans will be rooting for it. Can’t be mad at Weidman for keeping his name in the picture, closed mouths don’t get fed.

  22. randy says:

  23. 757 says:

Anderson doesn’t have to dodge Weidman. Weidman needs to grow up. He has been in the UFC what 10 min. A. Silva would beat thhis Kid down. Let’s give the champ some respect. Bonner has been in the UFC allot longer. This is his goodbye shot. He was there putting them on the map. Fertitta’s and Dana talk about the fight with Forrest in the TUF competition as the one that turned the corner. Tell this kid to sit down and be patient. The men are fighting. He will get his shot when he grows up a little. Let Anderson fight Stephan and Weidman will move closer. The fight isn’t even at 185 so you know it’s a show thing.

  24. Bjj BB says:

Ima huge silva fan but as his fan i really dont want to see silva fight bonner, it seems like the ufc is doing bonner a favor, this aint no charade sport, bonner has never been the number1 contender but i guess i really cant complain cause silva is not the champ nor is he a number1 contender in the 205 class but still, how does he go from not fighting till 2013 to fighting bonner at 205 and that makes sence but fighting chris dont?
