Tate would have had to have brought her Leatherman hacksaw with her, and severed her left arm at the elbow. Ronda was not letting go and could hold that position for a day if she had to. So, no. Tate was done.
And as long as her other arm is in sight of the ref and free to tap, the ref has to wait for a tap. Tate clearly had the option and opted not to tap.

I’m trying to get my wife into MMA because I want us to agree on at least one thing. I showed her this video thinking two women fighting might peak her interests. Afterwards, she said, “I knew the blond was going to win because the brunette came out too hard.” That’s what Rousey said in the post-fight interview: Let the opponent fight with ego rather than strategy, and then capitalize. Now if I can convince the wife she made a good observation without really knowing anything about the sport, maybe she’ll become more interested. Any one else have any suggestions?

Rousey should not have gone that far as to break her opponent’s arm. She could have kept a hold the arm for longer and Tate would’ve eventually tapped out. But Rousey was determined to break that arm and thus secure the victory. It seems to me a fighter would only do such thing to put another fighter out for good. I mean this could seriously destroy Tate’s career, and why would a fighter wanna do that to another fighter? Did Tonya Hardin have to break Nancy Kerrigan’s legs to win a skating competition? This shit was extremely dirty and unnecessary.
That’s not true she didn’t break it right away, she kept turning it up a notch untill it broke. Miesha should have tapped before it broke. I don’t like Rousey cause she talks trash and whines if her opponent returns the trashtalk, but she didn’t break it right away, fair is fair.
