VADA Sponsors BJ Penn – BJ Invites Rory | UFC News
VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) an independent organization founded to offer and promote effective anti-doping programs in boxing and mixed martial arts, contacted BJ Penn directly 2 weeks ago and requested the former UFC champion to be the first UFC fighter to go through the voluntary participation.
Dear Mr. Penn,
The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) selectively offers sponsorships to combat sports athletes who we believe would make outstanding representatives for clean sport. Typically, our sponsorship programs are offered to both participants in a scheduled event and include an 8-10 week period of random, unannounced blood and urine tests leading up to their bout.
Your long and successful history in MMA as an outspoken advocate for drug free sport would make it an honor for VADA to sponsor you and your opponent, Rory MacDonald, for UFC 152….
The future hall of famer is returning to the Octagon to face Tri-Star's up-and-coming Rory MacDonald at UFC 152. Penn makes history by being the 1st UFC fighter to go through the grueling process of random drug testing at the highest level, leaving no leeway for anyone who agrees. Bellator’s Ben Askren has been through the rigorous testing and Penn today requested MacDonald via twitter to join him in using the VADA process to test both fighters before they scrap on September 22.
Well, Penn Nation, BJ makes history once again. We get to see this unfold from here until fight night. Stay tuned!
