Undefeated Lightweight ‘Lethal’ Lewis Gonzalez Signs with WSOF
By JAKE CHASTAIN
| We just broke word that WSOF had inked former TUF 13 lightweight alum Keon Caldwell moments ago. Then, breaking almost immediately after was news that World Series of Fighting has also signed undefeated lightweight Lewis Gonzalez to a multi-fight deal.
MMAJunkie.com first confirmed the news with his manager, Dave Hirschbein. Financial terms of the contract have not yet been released. There has also not been a set date for Gonzalez to make his debut with the organization but we will likely see him make his first appearance under the WSOF banner in August or September.
Lewis Gonzalez (8-0) is a two-time California state high-school wrestling champion out of Turlock, California. The undefeated prospect made his pro MMA debut in September of 2011. Since then, the 25-year-old wrestling stand-out has posted seven stoppages with five submissions over the span of his eight wins.
According to Hirschbein, who runs the MMAGOLD gym in Folsom, Calif., Gonzalez fielded multiple offers before ultimately choosing WSOF, which currently airs its events on the NBC Sports Network.
Gonzalez signs the deal coming off of the heels of his first decision victory over previously undefeated Emmanuel Sanchez on May 3rd at a local show in California. Prior to that, he knocked out Bobby Stack (8-2 at the time) back in October.
The addition of Gonzalez to the WSOF lightweight roster is a huge plus for the organization as it continues to strengthen its name and popularity. The lightweight stable for WSOF is getting crowded with talent and Gonzalez could be one of the biggest threats among the bunch. Keep your eyes out for this kid in the near future. He could be ‘the next big thing.’
