UFC Vet Ricardo Almeida Assigned To Judge UFC 169
The UFC will return to Jersey this February for UFC 169: Barao vs. Faber 2. The event is set for Super Bowl weekend as Renan Barao attempts to defend his now official and undisputed UFC bantamweight crown against the always dangerous Urijah Faber on February 14, 2014 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
This will make the second time Barao and Faber have fought. The first bout resulting in a unanimous decision victory going to Barao. “The California Kid” took the fight on only three weeks after former UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz was forced to vacate his title after yet another injury. This time a groin injury forced Cruz not only out of his title defense, but forced him to give the official title up to Barao. The co-main event (a fight that could headline the card on it’s own) UFC Featherweight King Jose Aldo is set to defend his belt against Ricardo Lames.
However, its not just the stacked card that makes this event so exciting. It’s also the fact that according to the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, former UFC fighter Ricardo Almeida will be judging along side Cardo Urso and Eric Colon. Granted, with a list of killers headlining the card, he may not have to do much. None-the-less, this is very exciting considering the crap judging that fighters and fans alike have been forced to endure since the birth of the sport. Almeida is a very strong supporter for a change in MMA judging, and with this being his second appearance as a judge, this is definitely a step in the right direction for officiating.
