UFC Vet John Alessio Admits To Past PED Use

“I’ll be honest with you. I’m an honest person. When I was young — in my 18, 19, 20s, you know, 22 — I dabbled in a few of them (Performance Enhancing Drugs) . I tried them out [to see] how it is, so I know what they can do, and I know how they can work against you also. There are proven facts [that] it can make you faster and stronger, but there are proven facts [that] it can gas you out eventually. I’m not in a weightlifting competition. I’m not in a bodybuilding show. I’m in a mixed martial arts fight. In the dark ages of the sport, I tried [PEDs] but I also became a firm believer in ‘let’s make this sport natural… A lot of people have become dependent upon performance-enhancing drugs and stuff because of the mental factor. They don’t feel as strong; they don’t know if they’ll be as mean out there. And I’m definitely against performance-enhancing drugs. I think it’s kind of silly. I don’t think it is necessary at all. I think you can get everything you need naturally. I never did [PEDs] for a UFC fight, or any major organization.”

While a guest on the Sherdog radio networks, “Beatdown Radio”, two-time UFC fighter John Alessio admits to using PED’s in the past, but stops short of saying he used them to gain an edge in a major promotional matchup.

He last fought in the UFC in 2006, since then he had a brief stint in the WEC, has fought for DREAM and several other regional promotions.

But does he consider TRT a PED?

    • Twatty Mc.Twatface says:

      why would he?

      • Exactly..TRT can be abused but as long as test levels are normal or within range, there’s nothing wrong with it. Lotta ppl don’t understand the beating the body takes in prep for these fights. The training regimen of some of these fighters are still in the dark ages so they ignore rest, CNS overload/fatigue, thyriod fatigue etc( just watch TUF Koscheck vs GSP and see the difference in training. Koscheck was killing his guys, GSP was doing it smartly.)
ps Twatty…most epic name on this board…lol

          lionstrangler is pretty cool too.

        • Bla DeBla says:

If yer body canne handle the training in preparation for a fight then it cant handle the fight game .

          Time to retire .

The way you are talking about introducing synthetic hormones to your blood stream you must think its the same as taking a protein shake .

What difference does it make if you use synthetic hormones to give you an edge in your preparations or to help you recover from your preparations ?

I accept men can develop problems with their down stairs but I dont believe that the vast majority of those men coincidentally just happen to be under contract to the UFC .

Its not something that is acceptable in Sport .

If they dont want to retire then let em become journeymen & measuring sticks for novices to learn on but dont try to trivialize the misuse of pharmaceuticals & try to make out they are a necessary part of MMA .

      • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Because it’s an important and contentious issue.

      • Bla DeBla says:

What do you mean “Why Would He ” ?

He could be training on Mark Coleman size doses for 12 weeks before he gets officially tested by which time his preparation will have been done & he is cycled back down his dosage to within normal ranges , similar to how a fighter reduces his weight before fight night .

If he is dishonestly using synthetic hormones then he is recovering quicker & training harder than a natural athlete can , hence his performance will be enhanced .

Hey Jon do you think this “admission” will help you get in to the UFC? Let me help you with that question first off you aint anywhere even close to being good enough for UFC so i doubt it even matters that you admitted to being another “JUICE HEAD” IMO you should have saved that for the locker room where everyone else has or IS Juicing because TRUST ME we are not the least bit impressed and even though i have always thought you basically “SUCKED” i now think you are just another lifelong steroid abuser like CHEAT Sonnen and Nate “the CHEAT” Marquardt

  2. Jon Watkins says:

Guys, the BS about “As long as the test levels are normal, TRT is ok.”

That is a line of crap.

The test levels are NEVER “normal” while on TRT.

“Normal” test levels are what your body produces, period.

Also, using the average testosterone levels of a 20 year old male, as the “baseline” for “normal” levels is ridiculous.

If you are going to have a baseline of “normal”, then it should be directly tied in with the people of your same age group.

This is a complete loophole and the justifications for it are a complete joke.

    I myself have used TRT.
There is NOTHING “Normal” about it.

It is a VERY PURE version of the hormone and I had NEVER felt that way in my life, even when my natural levels were “”Normal”.

Do NOT buy into that BS excuse.

It is cheating, pure and simple.

    • GET RID OF FITCH says:

Jon watkins I have never seen TRT explained any better. TRT is for old men (like Me) and was never intended for high level athletes and that is why it is BANNED by every pro sport in world EXCEPT MMA. I was a high level athlete in my 30’s and was ripped from head to toe and NEVER took steroids in my life. I broke my back at 42 adn now have nerve damage and the nasty ass injections they insisted i get in my spine for 5 years RUINED my testosterone levels which ended up being 188. which is like a 90 year old man. I am on the lowest possible doseage and my levels have never been above 400 unlike Sonnens 3400 and even at 400 i have NEVER felt STRONGER and been so powerful and even that small amount makes me feel like superman. i can’t even imagine hvaing half the levels Sonnen not only had in Silva fight but what he has all during his training camps and he only has to taper down below 740 which is still higher than 90% of adult male population in world. TRT is JUICING straight up when USED like how Sonnen and marquardt have been suing it. Just remmeber you heard it here from a 50 year old man that is on the smallest amount 50 mg every 2 weeks. Sonnen has ro be taking at least 500 MG a week to reach 3400 which most doctors including mine did not think was possible. FREAKISH body buiders have been tested and were 2500 and Sonnen was 3400 for the Silva fight and you silva nuthuggers thinbk he wasn’t CHEATING. i guess the commison must have thought different because it cost him a year suspension for his first offense. Shit they only gave marquardt one month suspension fro his second offense being BUSTED fro STEROIDS

  3. UFC VIDEOS says:

Too common of a thing with MMA athletes right now…

    • GET RID OF FITCH says:

Any athlete that needs TRT should retire from sport because IMO everyone of their wins should have an * next to it just like Barry Bonds hom e run total. MMA in last decade will be looked back on as the STEROID ERA because i believe TRT will be outlawed in MMA very soon now that EV ERYONE is abusing it. Any fighter who uses TRT LEGALLY will have CHEAT Sonnen and Nate “THE CHEAT” Marquardt to thank fro ruining it for EVERYONE

      • Bla DeBla says:

I agree with your sentiments GROF but to isolate Sonnen & Maraquart is unnecessary .

They are just two whose numbers were out of line on the day they were tested , what about all those who get away with it ?

I see a lotta suspiciously well defined fighters in the UFC , none of them carry any unsightly flab , not even the heavyweights .

As far as I have seen Fedor is the only top heavyweight in MMA who actually looks like a natural heavyweight combat athlete .
