UFC Vet Ricardo Almeida Selected For UFC Judge For Fox 3 Card | UFC NEWS

UFC veteran Ricardo Almeida has been announced as one of the judges for the UFC’s upcoming event in New Jersey for UFC on FOX 3. This move breaths new life into the world of MMA judging. Almeida is an accomplished jiu-jitsu player and has been in the Octagon before. He knows what goes on in the cage and won’t be afraid to give a round to a fighter who attacks off their back, for example.
This is an exciting announcement as UFC veterans make the perfect judges on paper. Judging has been the target of critics for years, but with a high level fighter like Almeida joining the ranks of UFC judge, hopefully we can see less controversy over close decisions.
Will having a UFC vet as well respected as Almeida make the scoring process more accurate?

Finally, a judge who knows what they’re looking at.
I don’t know why they want new judges. Cecil Peoples is the GOAT of mma judging.

WRONG! CECIL PEOPLES is tone of the dumb ass judges from the 1st SHOGUN/MACHIDA fight
No shit Sherlock. Check the link.
I believe it will help but people will still complain. Liddell even said it while he was ref’ing, that sometimes you make a bad call and people hate you for it. Its definetely a positive step in the direction judging should be taking, however I fear that appropriate judging in fights like Condit/Diaz will be lost simply because most MMA fighters turned judges wouldn’t be as knowledgable in those situations.
Finally, i think all the judges should be ex fighters, guess what, they know best who won the fight, good job who ever made this choice
Watch biased decisions happen.
Yeah I was just thinking that. The problem with ex-UFC fighters being judges is that they have spent hundreds of hours training with some of the people on fight cards they may be judging. If Almeida was judging UFC 144, Edgar might still be the champ.
Thats what we wanna see.
I wonder if he will be replacing one of the 3 athletic commission judges or they will be seperate. I also wonder if he will have first hand view of the other two judges putting down ridiculous scores
I’m sure they’ll put a wrestler as one of the other three judges to cancel out Almeida….. It’s a step in the right direction though.
bill mahood was a judge for liddel vs franklin and i think caol uno was a judge in japan before
good stuff
As long as he doesn’t judge fights that include a people he trains with. He’s obviously going to be biased as anyone would be in that scenario. He did think Frankie won the fight with Ben after all.
Agree or don’t but am I the only one who thinks they should hire EDDIE BRAVO to be a damn judge!!!!!
