UFC 'Very Open' To Bout Between Silva And St Pierre 'If GSP beats Condit' | UFC News

Dana White comments in an interview with MMAFighting.

Recently there has been talk of a potential super-fight between UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St Pierre and Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. Anderson’s manager Jorge Guimaraes recently went on record¬†dismissing a bout with¬†Middleweight contender Chris Weidman in the hope of a more lucrative bout with St Pierre.

UFC President Dana White commented on a potential bout between the Welterweight and Middleweight champion’s. White supports the idea and thinks that it makes sense and suggests it could clarify who truly is the pound-for-pound king.

“Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva are both considered, and most people argue, I think finally, especially with the inactivity from GSP, that people now consider [Silva] the pound-for-pounder, but there was an argument there for a long time and if GSP hasn’t been this inactive, maybe the debate would still be there. But he’s definitely top two or three in the world, depending on who you ask. And if you were really going to make a fight like that, it would make more sense with Georges St Pierre, than it would with Diaz.”

Dana continued to discuss the potential bout stating that the bout between St Pierre and Condit could be the deciding factor in the matter.

“Maybe. That’s what we’re thinking. But anything can happen. It’s always theoretical. You don’t know what’s going to happen, we’ll see what happens in the future here, and maybe that is the fight we’re gonna make. I can tell you this not theoretically.”

Lorenzo Fertitta also had his say on the bout via text message. Fertitta came out in support of the bout and also cited the bout between St Pierre and Condit as a deciding factor.

“We are very open to the idea of Anderson/’GSP.’ If ‘GSP’ beats Condit, it’s a fight we would like to make.”
