"UFC on FOX 3: Diaz vs. Miller" Main Card Results And Recap | Diaz First Man To Stop Miller

Tonight’s UFC on FOX 3: Diaz vs. Miller card has just reached its conclusion.

In the main event both Jim Miller and Nate Diaz put on an exciting bout but in the end it was Diaz who proved to be too much for Miller and he was able to secure a submission victory after 2 rounds of action.

Having just bested his opponent Nate Diaz makes a strong case for title contention and has put the rest of the UFC’s lightweight division on notice.

After a full 12-bout fight card the UFC’s third trip to network television was a stellar showing and finally delivered the action to the FOX audience that many longtime followers have been clamoring for since the inception of the broadcast deal.

Check out our play-by-play recap followed by results below:

Pat Barry vs. Lavar Johnson:
This fight opens as expected, big strong fast punches and kicks from both sides. Lavar puts Barry in trouble early but Pat weathers the storm, shoots for a takedown that gets stuffed but after a scramble Pat gets top position, transitions to mount, transitions to side control and grabs a kimura. The submission attempt was close, he had Lavar cringing in pain but Johnson did not tap and Barry gave it up. With one minute left Lavar worked his way back up and the two slugged away but Lavar’s power was just too much to handle. Against the cage Barry stood dormant while Lavar just pounded away until Barry dropped and the ref stepped in and stopped the fight.

Lavar Johnson def. Pat Barry via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 4:38

Alan Belcher vs. Rousimar Palhares:
After a brief feeling out period Palhares takes Belcher down before even one punch is landed. Belcher defends well and attempts a twister submission but Palhares is too slick. Eventually after a scramble Palhares gets a hold of Belchers leg, but Alan defends well and with two minutes left survives the attack. He scrambles through it all and winds up on top (Belcher that is). From guard Alan lands big elbows to the Brazilians face, he unleashes ground and pound with aggressive strength in brutal fashion and the ref stops the bout.

Alan Belcher def. Rousimar Palhares via TKO (ground and pound) – Round 1, 4:18

Johny Hendricks vs. Josh Koscheck:
The two wrestlers open up the fight throwing bombs, but Koscheck is finding a home for his big right hand and put Johny in trouble early. Hendricks weathers the storm and with three minutes left works his way into a takedown but Josh pops back up almost instantly. As expected this fight has turned into a kickboxing match and its definitely favoring Koscheck at the end of the first round.

In the second Hendricks gets real aggressive with big punches but doesn’t land many, he shoots for a double that Koscheck stuffed and after the scramble Kos ended up on the back of Johny until the two stood up. Hendricks again shoots in for the takedown and gets it, but cannot do anything with it. Kos is able to get back up but Hendricks won’t lay off and clinches against the cage until the ref separates them. They engage on the feet until the round comes to a conclusion. It was close but that round, at least in my opinion went to Hendricks which should tie this fight up, one-round each.

In the final frame the two are bombs away yet again, this time about a minute in its Kos who shoots for a takedown, backs Johny up against the cage and they clinch until the ref stops them. They both head to the center and slug it out trading blow for blow just like the flyweights earlier in the night. Midway through the frame Hendricks goes to the clinch again, but the ref has no patience for the stall and separates them again. Three minutes in and after absorbing a big knee to the face Kos takes Hendricks down and worked towards passing the guard however Hendricks will have none of it, regardless Kos is grinding him down from top position and taking the round.

Johny Hendricks def. Josh Koscheck via split-decision (29-28,29-28,29-28)

Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller:
These two wasted no time getting it on. Jim opened up with a nasty leg kick and seems determined not to let Diaz settle in and get off. He shot early for a takedown but had to settle for clinching Nate against the cage. Midway through the two reset in the center of the cage and start the boxing game. Neither really as the edge in the round at the two minute mark. With 45 seconds left in the frame Nate landed a straight left that dropped miller nearly flat on his face. He followed Jim to the ground and the two scrambled, trading positions until the bell rang.

In the second the two came out swinging but Nate initiated the clinch repeatedly over the first 1.5 minutes of the round, and did it successfully by pushing Jim against the cage. At this point Miller is starting to bleed from his nose or mouth, hard to tell. Nate is going nuts with the taunts, Miller shoots in for a takedown Nate grabs his throat, he didn’t have it at first, but he readjusts, lands the one arm guillotine to stop Jim and take the win.

Nate Diaz def. Jim Miller via submission (guillotine) – Round 2, 4:09

  1. Mike McMack says:

Diaz vs Pettis should be the No.1 contender fight since both dudes were told they were next and Bendo vs Edgar isn’t for a while. Can’t wait to see it, should be a war.

  2. Kalez says:

Well done Nate. Never send it to the judges.

  3. DAMN! says:

    Year of the 209!

  4. Hightower says:

Diaz and Belcher were on beast mode tonight. Awesome performances.

  5. The King says:

I’d like The Diaz bros if they didn’t try so hard to give the impression that they are mean..

    C’mon wigger

    • Meanstreak says:

Yup they try and act like the walked through Comptenton. If they quit that b.s. act and maybe they will have some fan and wouldn’t be critized so much . Nate tries to be like big bro, and Nick just a punk thinking everyone should fear him. They should just go puff the dragon some more

      • danielrchargers says:

ha Bj ball sack suckers. Im a Bj fan but not a Bj ball sack sucker.
Diaz bro’s grew up in poverty. I have cousins like that, they have the tough man act, but in reality they are real humans who do the same thing “me and you” do. Except they do it with a WHAT attitude, WHICH IS NO PROBLEM.

        • The King says:

          Quit playing home boy.

We all know those 2 are the hardest acting Gangstah wannabees.

You like Snoop or are you a Twista fan?

          WIGGER!

        • myballsonnateschin says:

They act Like a bunch of of fucking teenagers, they should just grow the fuck up and quit being so immature. I cant stand ignorant wiggers.

        • Y says:

should the Diaz brothers change for your dumbasses? who gives a flying shit what you think of them? they fight. they win. you don’t like it, go watch tennis.

      • Nuitari X says:

Having once been guilty of wiggerdom before getting older and coming to my jimmy whitebread senses, i have to say i don’t really like that about them either. However, they did grow up rough and went through a struggle to be where they are today, that doesn’t warrant wiggerdom but you have to respect it. I think the bottom line about the Diaz bros. is love em or hate em, they are both well rounded exciting fighters and at the end of the day that is what every true fight fan wants to see.

        • Alex Daas says:

U guys are losers, just because u were wiggers doesnt mean there arbt people who are actually hard like the diaz brothers, u guys forget that fighting isnt only what goes on in the cage, there is a psycological aspect to it as well and thats what they are playing to when they display their 209
behavior… Why is okay for sonnen to lie and cheat but the diaz brothers cant be themselves without people judging? Why dont u just judge them for their accomplishments instead of your own insecurities…

        • Nuitari X says:

I was being totally honest douchebag and you can be from poverty and still be hard or “who you are” without being a fuckin wigger idiot. Did you even read the last line of my post you fuckin moron, I WAS judging them by their accomplishments dumbass learn to read before you open your fuckin mouth.

    • myballsonnateschin says:

I can’t stand that wanna be thug tough guy wigger shit, I can’t stand those fags.

  6. Taylor says:

If you aren’t a fan of Nate Diaz, you are simply not an MMA fan. This dude is what MMA is all about. Well-rounded in every aspect and comes to fight every time. If you don’t like Nate Diaz, you are a sensitive, low-life homosexual.

    • E says:

      cough*chart*cough

    • Meanstreak says:

Taylor i think you got a man crush on Nate.

I’m not a Nate D fan. i am a mma fighter and got a smoking woman in my bed that i will plow tonight while u flap it to Nate. go try and smoke with him and nick

      • danielrchargers says:

either you are 9 years old or you are from jersey.

      • naru says:

to bad that smoking woman is your sister. plow away. the rest of your mma team did.

      • James says:

Congratulations, your trophy is in the mail.

      • Taylor says:

I’m married with kids. Why did you feel the need to say that you like women??? What the fuck does that have to do with anything? Are you insecure about your sexuality or what? I like fighters who come to fight. As an mma fighter, I would think that you would appreciate that. Would you prefer to watch guys like GSP hump away to win a decision? Who really cares if you are an mma fighter? You just proved to this whole site that you are a class A douchebag.

    • myballsonnateschin says:

Im not sensative, I just grew up and realize I’m white not black. I fucking hate all wiggers.

      • dynomania says:

so many ignorant people on this site. Anyone of any racial background can act however the hell he or she desires. It’s the environment that builds the character more so than the genes they are born with. If you grow up in the ghetto you’re going to be more ghetto. Why don’t you all substitute wigga for ghetto. Your posts will be more logical. Also, the Diaz bros are of Mexican decent, so wigga doesn’t really apply. I love the Diaz bros and anyone who follows the sport or them knows they are good people at heart. If they have to get a little crazy and talk some shit to amp up for a fight, good for them.

  7. Nuitari X says:

Never been a huge kos fan but I think he won that fight regardless of the punch stats or the way his eye looked at the end.

    • Mucks says:

      Agreed

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Yeah, I don’t understand their count of strikes
The only time Hendricks was landing significant strikes is when they were stalled on the cage. Hendricks landed some haymakers but KOS avoid a majority of them.

KOS won that fight but maybe this is Karma for winning a fight he should have lost against Mike Pierce.

  8. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

FOTN for me was Pallahares vs Belcher!

  9. Mwill says:

Are you kidding me? I gave Kos the first round ONLY because of the poke in the eye affected Hendricks and allowed Kos to tee off on him (which he withstood). If that poke never happened, it would have been 30-27 x 2 and 29-28, all for Hendricks! Kos’ corner kept yelling at him to “go first” and when he didn’t, that meant he was timid to engage which means he knew deep down inside, (where every fighter try’s to hide it), that he knew he was getting the short end of the stick on the exchanges.

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

I gave rd 2 to Hendricks, rd 1 to Kos regardless of an eye poke and rd 3 to Kos. The stand up was really close in all 3 rds but in the 3rd Kos ended the last 20-30 seconds on top, not fitching either. He was doing some actual work.

      • Mwill says:

Just because Kos ended the fight on top does not give him the 3rd round. A take down late should not discount the better striking displayed by Hendricks in the 3rd round. The judges actually had it right! Accidental eye pokes happen but Kos ONLY won round 1 because of it.

        • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

That’s why it was split. Their striking stats weren’t that far apart. It was back and forth Hendricks would have landed less if Kos didn’t allow himself to get kneed in the legs for long periods of time. But in the third Kos was on top for 30 sec landing shots. Close match though. If Kos had a jab Hendricks face wouldn’t have looked so flawless.

        • Mwill says:

The fight stats at the end I believe were “significant strikes” and not total strikes because they had Hendricks at 52 significant strikes and 52 head strikes. They did not count the knees to the thigh.

Taking donations to get some english tutoring from the wonderful folks at Sylvan learning center

  11. myballsonnateschin says:

NATE CAN SUCK MY BALLS!!! I CAN’T STAND DEGENERATE WIGGERS AND HE NEEDS TO QUIT BEING A BITCH AND GO UP IN WEIGHT AND FIGHT PEOPLE HIS OWN SIZE…..WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE BUST A CAP IN THERE ASS ALREADY.

    • UFC : Ultimate Fighter Corporation says:

someone needs to lay off the caffeine..

    • RFK says:

You are full blown hater someone should bust a cap in your ass hopefully a wigger better yet a redneck get a life fucking loser

    • GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

But its ok for Fitch and GSP to walka round and 24 hours after weighins walk in cage at 195-202 lbs against 168lbers like BJ. Nate doesn’t weigh as much as Bendo or maynrd, even cerrone was alot bigger than nate. nate beat miller will actaull skill and technique.

    • King Prodigy Levreau says:

WOW! I bet right now your bumping some N.W.A. and singing it in your car real loud (going hard) and then you turn it down because you notice someone looking at you in another car, probably of color. I call B.S on you my friend…quit with all the hate and just try to appreciate and not discriminate. See what I did there a little rap for you. The differences of people are what make this world so great. Don’t be so prejudice! One love from the city of “NO” in central cali.

    • dynomania says:

      Haters gonna hate.

    • Taylor says:

Both Nate and Nick are of Mexican descent. If you think they’re both wiggers who act tough, you obviously haven’t seen them fight. Those dudes don’t have to put on a persona…they go out and beat the shit out of their opponent. You’re at home punchin away on a keyboard man. You wouldn’t stand in front of Nate’s face and call him a wigger. You would get Stockton slapped and get boxed the fuck up.

  12. Mwill says:

Nate can’t go up in weight because he knows he will get rag dolled like he did before. That whole team is fucking weird! Nick swore that Shields was a great, awesome fight and now he is one of the boringest fighters around. Now Nate is praising Gilbert? Come on, Gilbert won’t even get past “The Punk”.

    • UFC : Ultimate Fighter Corporation says:

He already beat “The Punk”, idiot. That’s how he won the title.

      • Mwill says:

And “The Punk” already beat him, you idiot! I’m talking about the upcoming fight, not the past two fights where they each are 1-1 vs each other. God, you really are a moron, aren’t you?

  13. GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

Nate knew damn well he could never win a decsion in Jersey. Did any of you remember Bocek vs Miller. Next to impossible to beat Miller in a decision. Too bad al the point fighters like GSP, Fitch, don’t have the balls of a DIAZ and come to fight and actually “TRY” an d put on a show fans. I would pay $1000 to see a Diaz fight before I would pay 10 cents to watch Fitch and GSP bore us to death. I mean come on everyone knows every fight doesn’t have a finish but how many years has it been Fitch or GSP has actually committed to a submision. you know you hear Fitch all over the internet bragging how he is the best most technical fighter in world and how he is this high level submisions expert who tyhe Military chose to train soldiers in submisions. I call horse pucky ie: bullshit no matter how much of a wet blanket Fitch is he would arther dies than risk losing “FITCHING POSITION” than go for a sub. I mean come on how can he say he is truly a bjj blackbelt. i think he need to take that funky off brand guirall jj belt and put it back in the cereal box it came in and start all over drive over to Caeser Gracies and learn some “REAL” BJJ. Diaz boys are “REALFIGHTERS” who come to fight and don’t need massive amounts of JUICE like the Sonnen’s GSp’s, Rory ( I would bet the farm Rory is on the same PED’s as GSP no doubt whatsoever. take a close look and do some reasearch its obvious you pussys have made a bigger deal and crucfied Diaz worse for pot than anyone has ever gotten sh’t for STEROIDS. Can you guys even fathom how good the Diaz boys would be if they JUICED UP like 90% of all othr MMA fighters. If that doesn’t tell you how good they really are there is no hope of you ever realizing theri talent/skill level.

    • DJ says:

wow you are a dumb ****.

      • GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

DJ wow you are really cool and intelligent. typical loser

        • Mwill says:

Common denominator? GET RID OF FITCH (forever)! People just don’t like you or your long drawn out stories but I understand how lonely you are and feel the need to ramble on!

        • GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

I forgot more about MMA than you could learn in 100 lifetimes. Everyone on this site thinks you are the biggest piece of shit troll to ever post on this sight. mwill thank god you’re are some loser from across the pond cause there is no way anyone from here could be as sick in the head as your sorry ass. go buy some rope and do the world a huge service and quick wasting oxygen

  14. Mwill says:

It’s not the pot people are pissed about, it is their shitty attitudes that people don’t like and are only using the pot to beat them up with. You can be a person without being a fighter, but you can’t be a fighter without being a person and a lot of people don’t like the Diaz brother’s as people, not fighters. Realize the difference.

  15. Thom says:

People crying over Nate’s personality are pathetic.. What are you, 12? Get over it.

    • GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

Thom right on money sir you could not have hit nail on head any better

    • Mwill says:

You not thinking their personality matters means you don’t know the business, not the fighter, but the business. What do you think Dana said to Brock after flipping off the fans and saying negative things about Bud Light? What you you think Dana said to Nick after not showing up to two press conferences and losing his chance at the belt? But fighter personalities don’t matter to fans? Come on, get a clue!

      • dynomania says:

Last time I checked both Diaz brothers are two of the most marketable fighters in the business. So was Brock, so is Kos, and so is Chael. The sport needs fighters that are polarizing to succeed. It makes it interesting.

  16. Hjortur Halldorsson says:

Fantastic card that definitely lived up to my expectations. But man was I surprised that Belcher won Palhares, I would’ve been prepared to bet my car on Palhares winning by his signature move.

I was pleased to see Hendricks win Kosh, but I most certainly hope that Kosh is alright.

Hendricks vs Ellenberger for the title shot is the fight I won’t to see next! The WW division is looking very impressive, I hope that Erick Silva becomes a force in that division.

  17. Guamy says:

all these guys on here talking bout how they have an act or some shit is funny. Diaz bros do this to hype fights and hype them selves up also, all you haters cant undestand it cause your a bunch of children who never been in a real fight. you call them all these bad things from the safety of your home computer. your a bunch of cowards.

  18. E says:

who the fk cares if theyre wiggers. you fools remind me of bitches at a gossip convention.

pull your heads out your asses and stop worrying about petty shit.

  19. slacker says:

Nice job by Nate. Nice submission. Once again, a Diaz throws off their opponent by taunting and getting them to fight on emotion. When will people learn?

  20. GreenTeaBagger says:

Well, I think that Diaz put on an amazing display of gangmanship. Wouldn’t you say old chap??

  21. Taylor says:

There are so many faggot trolls on this site now it’s disgusting. I wonder where these cowards even came from. Are you guys even MMA fans or what? Who fucking cares if you think someone acts like a wigger. Nate Diaz is better than your favorite fighter. He will beat Benson Henderson, and some of you will still be crying because you think he acts like a wigger. Get over it pussies. This site has attracted some real douchebags over the years. Fuck.
