UFC Targets UFC 172 For Evans vs. Cormier Redo – Chael’s Offer To Fight Cormier Denied
The two men were originally scheduled to throw down on the UFC 170 card next week, but a leg injury suffered by Evans nixed those plans. This would obviously leave Cormier without an opponent; quite a disappointment, considering all the hard work that Cormier put in, getting himself ready for his first fight at light heavyweight.
Although, one fighter did attempt to save the day. And you probably know exactly who that fighter was.
Like him or hate him, Chael¬†Sonnen has more than proved that his mantra of “anyone, anywhere, anytime” is not just talk.
Unfortunately, however, that scenario isn’t going to happen. It seems UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta wants to see Evans and Cormier get it on, and is more than fine with waiting a few months to make it happen. L.A. Times’ Lance Pugmire¬†believes that Fertitta¬†is looking at UFC 172 as the probable do-over date. (UFC 172, of course, is headlined by the¬†light-heavyweight championship fight between Jon Jones and¬†Chuck Liddell¬†proteg√©, Glover Teixeira.)
We’ll keep you posted on any news as it pertains to UFC 170, UFC 172, or anything else in between.
