Reports have surfaced of some movement among the UFC’s roster of fighters, as the organization has apparently released two fighters and signed two more.
With the cuts, both Mizuto Hirota and Azamat Gashimov no longer appear on the organization’s roster at UFC.com, indicating that both fighters have been released. Both fighters hold 0-2 records in the UFC.
Mizuto Hirota (14-7) has lost his last three fights, the two most recent in the UFC’s featherweight division. Despite some success in Japan’s Shooto organization, Hirota was unable to make a successful turn once joining Strikeforce and the UFC.
Azamat Gashimov (7-3) has spent less than 9 minutes fighting in the Octagon. In his first two fights he was finished by Ivan Menjivar and John Lineker by a first-round submission and a second-round TKO, respectively. At only 23 years of age, Gashimov has plenty of time to work his way back to the UFC. Training out of Jackson’s MMA, one of the more successful gyms in the sport right now, it may only be a matter of two or three fights before the Russian Gashimov makes his return.
With regard to new signings, the Brazilian media outlet, Combate, reported that Brazilian middleweight fighter, Bruno Santos, will now be fighting for the UFC. Santos (13-0), who is known as ‘Carioca,’ fought last for Bellator FC where he defeated Giva Santana to keep his undefeated record. No bout has been assigned to Santos yet as he is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, but with the number of UFC events held in Brazil, we will likely see Carioca debut on the preliminary card of an event overseas.
The final signing for the UFC is Alexandra Albu, an undefeated female bantamweight fighter from Russia. Albu (5-0) holds several titles in Karate and Judo, according to MixedMartialArts.com. Her signing has not been official announced at this point.
