Following his release from the UFC, middleweight fighter Yushin Okami has been removed from the organization’s ranking system. This move highlights the UFC’s release of its second top-ten ranked fighter this year.

The UFC removed Yushin Okami from its middleweight rankings earlier this week, just days after the organization released the Japanese fighters from its roster.
Okami was ranked 6th in the middleweight division, and his release marked the second time this year that the UFC had cut a top-ten fighter the other being Jon Fitch. In light of the removal of Okami, Luke Rockhold, Francis Carmont, Constantinos Philippou and Chael Sonnen previously ranked 7-10, respectively have all advanced one spot.
Typically, the UFC only updates its rankings following a fight card. As these changes occurred after a recent update, the organization chose to leave the 10th spot in the middleweight division blank. Most likely, that spot will be filled after UFC Fight Night 29, which takes place next Wednesday.
