UFC President Warns Fighters To Think Long And Hard Before Signing To Bellator | UFC NEWS

“The judge must not have done his homework if he’s agreeing that Spike TV and FOX are the same platforms,” exclaimed White. “They’re so f–king far apart, it’s not even funny. It’s two different f–king universes.

“I saw in their argument where they said, ‘Oh, Spike launches pay-per-views.’ No, actually they don’t. That’s not true. We did. What they’re doing is, they’re saying — not as much Spike, as Viacom — has been saying, ‘We built the UFC.’ No you f–king did not. No you did not, you arrogant, pompous jackass. You did not build the UFC. We’ll see if you did.

“It’s ridiculous,” White fumed. “I don’t know how a court or a judge couldn’t see that. And even if they said, ‘You know what, let’s really dive into this thing. Let’s see what the lowest pay-per-view is the UFC has ever done. Let’s see if we can find out what a low number is, what a high number is, and let’s see if we can find a right number that Eddie Alvarez should be paid.’ There’s got to be some middle ground there. Say, okay, depending on what pay-per-view he would have been on, this is maybe what he should have been paid. Find a middle ground, and pay the kid what he should’ve been paid. There’s nothing wrong with this whole situation as long as Eddie Alvarez gets paid.

“This isn’t one of those situations where you’re talking about, ‘Poor little Bellator.’ Viacom owns Bellator. They’re the owners of Bellator. They pull the triggers. They make the money. They have the money, they decide what’s going on over there.

“These are boxing guys, man,” an exasperated White finished. “This is what boxing guys do. They sue everybody. They’re always in court, every 15 minutes. So this is something, this Eddie Alvarez situation, if you look at the 13-year history of the UFC, and our relationship with fighters, and what we’ve done, there’s always going to be a situation where guys need more money. Everybody wants to make more money. You guys want to make more money. Everybody needs to make more money. That’s never going to change. That’s in all of sports, okay?

“But you better think long and hard if you’re a manager or a fighter and you’re about to do a deal with Bellator. Think long and hard about how you negotiate that contract.”

I guess Dana White has forgotten all the times the UFC has sued its fighters. I bet Randy Couture remembers losing several years of his life as a fighter over a litigated contract with the UFC. He’s such a hypocrite.

    • C says:

Randy sued the UFC, not the other way around

      • justjohn says:

And the UFC countersued. Randy is far from the only fighter to have to end up in litigation with the UFC. The UFC uses litigation to get their way, but when Bellator does it its wrong? DW is a hypocrite, plain and simple.

        • gar says:

Except randy actually had fights left on his contract..

So he was in direct breach of contract.

What Bellator is doing is saying is that getting a bellator Ppv cut is the same as getting a ufc one..

          Its not, not even close.

  2. Damreal says:

don’t forget how the UFC went after BJ in court I’m sure he can atest to that here !!

  3. David F. says:

Dana doesnt operate his own twitter?!? (refer to 3:19-3:24)

  4. unknown says:

The thing with BJ was he was Welterweight Champ and signed with a K-1 or some other japanese promotion while contracted to the UFC. And this whole thing with Bellator and Eddie is different from Randy and the UFC. Bellator pretty much is bullshitting to keep Eddie. Offering him PPV on their counter offer wen dey dont even have PPV to begin with, and yes Spike and FOX are two different things. Spike you need cable to watch, where as FOX you didn’t before everything went digital. Bellator is just pissy cuz Eddie wants to go where the big boys are and really test his skills instead of being Big Fish, Small Pond. Only fight he has legit in Bellator is a rematch with Chandler

  5. duane says:

Spike did not make UFC off the chart. Sure it made it easier 4 people to watch it. Dana U got to respect the guy he keeps shit goin he tweets with fans idk a organization that does that. Ufc has the fighters we like fights we like shit season 17 of tuf thats alot of seasons. if alot of the fighters went to bellator idk what i would do i love the ufc n when Silva got here n tuf started it sky rocketed n jus got bigger n better, my opinion n everyones is different. shit sometimes ppv’s were free but hsnt been 4 awhile n im not b*****in

Everyone calling Dana White a hypocrite should do a little research. Do a search on any search engine you want for the UFC suing fighters and tell me what you find. I found lots of examples of fighters suing when the fighter breached contract, or the tattoo artist that sued THQ over the UFC game, or the UFC suing NY to lift the ban on MMA, but no results for the UFC suing their own fighters without a lawsuit already in place by the fighter….Interesting. Now, look at the history of the guys at the top of Bellator. Dana is absolutely right in warning about the way they conduct themselves.
