UFC President Dana White Confirms That GSP Is “Far From Being Ready” To Fight

“Georges has been rehabilitating and he’s been doing great. He is on track, but he is still far from being ready. These surgeries these days aren’t what they used to be. He went to the absolute best doctor there is. He’s getting the best physical therapy that you can get and he’s a hard worker,” said White. “Some of these knee surgeries now are just as good – I mean, Jerry Rice, 10 years ago, came back from a knee surgery and was still awesome. It depends on the individual, but these knee surgeries are way different than they used to be.”

UFC president Dana White took to the post-UFC 143 media rush last weekend to give an update on his welterweight champion, Georges St.-Pierre.

GSP has been inactive since early 2011 due to multiple injuries that have forced him to cancel two consecutive title defenses. Most recently he underwent the knife to fix a damaged knee and is expected to return sometime in November.

He likely faces Carlos Condit in his welcome home match.

  1. pthance says:

GSP is a monster when it comes to training, I’d expect him to come back much the same as before the injury.

  2. bert says:

he’s a robot not a person. the only reason he is out for this long is they have to manufacture a new servo-motor for his knee joint.

  3. GIL says:

he wont be the same after this injury, his take downs wont be as explosive, and his lateral movement will be slowed down! he’ll come back for a fight or two but then need surgery again and again just like shogun rua

  4. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Dana doesn’t believe in modern medicine.

  5. TheCrippler says:

The problem with Shogun is he didn’t let it heal properly the first couple of times. GSP is the champ and a huge money draw, there is no way Dana will let that happen. Who knows how he’ll be when he comes back. I honestly expect him to be stronger than ever.

  6. Furby8704 says:

BS!!! I ran into him last night while i went to go see star wars in 3D…GSP is a NERD!!!

The big surgery is his testicle implants not his knee.
