Overeem Fails Last Week’s Random Drug Test | UFC 146 Main Event In Jeopardy
Last week the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) exercised their right to request urine samples from the six-UFC heavyweights that participated in the UFC 146 pre-fight press conference on Tuesday.
Among the men tested was main event fighter Alistair Overeem.
He failed.
According to the NSAC Executive Director, Keith Kizer, out of the six men tested only Alistair Overeem failed. He tested positive for an increased testosterone/epitestosterone or T/E ratio of more than 10-to-1 and the allowable limit is 6-to-1.
Overeem must now answer these charges in front of the commission if he wishes to compete on the UFC 146 fight card against Junior dos Santos for the UFC’s heavyweight title. However, even an appearance and valid explanation may not result in a license to fight.
The other fighters tested were Frank Mir, Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva.

I know… I’m just disappointed because this was the fight I was looking forward to the most this year. His chances aren’t great King Mo and Cyborg both got suspended even though they appeared before the commission to defend themselves.

Why is he still allowed to fight? Why do we go straight to talking about appeals and “B” samples? His career should be over. That’s the only effective deterrent against fighters using PEDs. Getting a slap on the wrists, petty fine, and a 6-10 month suspension isn’t going to prevent a god damn thing. Everybody with a brain in their heads knows he has been juicing for awhile. He skipped his first drug test, submitted an invalid blood test conducted by his “PERSONAL DOCTOR”, submitted urine that wasn’t even tested and now he fails his first random test in extraordinary fashion, and we are STILL talking about appeals and “B” samples? What the ****?

I think because its not before/after fight time.. This was a random pre fight test that was taken before training camps start at a press conference.. And it might not be a PED.. So they test a B sample and he gets to explain to the commission.. Thats what im guessing
There’s a misunderstanding regarding ‘A’ and ‘B’-tests.
The sample that’s given in a drug test is divided into two containers, ‘A’ and ‘B’. It means that the urine/blood sample in an ‘A’ and ‘B’ test is from the same sample, only split into two containers/tubes. It’s not to seperate tests done at a different time.
The reason for doing this is, if a person tests positive in a drug test (sample A) they have to make sure the positive result isn’t due to contaminated equipment or errors done during the analyzing. So they do a second analyze on the other half of the sample (sample B) to confirm the result.

NSAC or any other commision need to recognise that consistent and periodic drug tests needs to be done on each fighter to maintain the integrity of the sport. one could argue its costly, its not that expensive and as such the fighers management can pay for it.

They can’t overturn it because he passed all of his tests leading up to the Lesnar fight and the post fight test. Even if he was using then, the commission would never be able to prove it, so unfortunately that win is going to stay on his record.

When ever an athlete gets larger in areas of their body that normally can’t be increased by lifting weights, it usually equals some sort of roid use that is unless Barry Bonds and Allister Overeem share the same forehead and skull coach!!! If the UFC wants to be taken seriously, that have to randomly test any fighter under contract year around.
Don’t forget that when he was supposed to be tested before the Lesnar fight, he disappeared back home for a few weeks. The NSAC had something to say about that and that’s why he’s been on notice that he’ll be getting tested randomly. Yet he still fails. These guys cycle on and off. It’s a science apparently. Stay on til a certain time before your fight. As for what the steroids do, they allow you to train more because your muscles recover, you carry less body fat. You carry more muscle mass. Makes it easier for him to train harder and more often and thus improve his skills and strength. I would like to see the fight still happen, but I’d like to know that Overeem is off the testosterone.
