UFC on FUEL TV Shift | Rivera In For Gashimov Against Soto | UFC NEWS

Originally scheduled to face Alex Soto at UFC on FUEL TV 3, Azamat Gashimov has been forced to withdraw from the bout with undisclosed reasons.

In his place comes onetime UFC veteran Francisco Rivera.

UFC on FUEL TV 3 takes place on May 15 from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. In the main event top featherweight contenders Dustin Poirier and Chan Sung Jung will battle it out in what is likely a number one contender eliminator.

Rivera had two unsuccessful outings under the ZUFFA banner to earn his dismissal. In his last contest under the promotional giant he failed to capture victory and instead suffered a third-round submission loss to Reuben Duran to receive his walking papers. Since leaving the UFC he took to the regional circuit where he found success in two back to back victories via KO to earn his shot back in the big show.

Soto entered the UFC as a hot undefeated prospect but took a bout with surging bantamweight slugger Michael McDonald on short notice and suffered his first career defeat at UFC 139. This recent booking now gives him a second chance to prove he belongs amongst the worlds best fighters.
