UFC on FUEL TV 9 main card is set, features Couture vs. Pearson co-Main Event | UFC NEWS
The main card for UFC on FUEL TV 9 has been set with six fights, with the night’s co-main event featuring Ryan Couture (6-1) meeting Ross Pearson (14-6) in a Lightweight battle.
Included on the main-card are the following fights:
- Philip De Fries vs. Matt Mitrione
- Mike Easton vs. Brad Pickett
- Diego Brandao vs. Pablo Garza
- Akira Corassani vs. Robert Peralta
The Main Event of the night is a Light Heavyweight fight between top contender Alexander Gustafsson (15-1) and ex-Strikeforce champ Gegard Mousasi (33-3-2). The fight was, at one time, a chance for Gustafsson to earn a shot for the title, but Dana White changed his mind and gave that opportunity to Lyoto Machida. A win would make a strong case for the Swedish contender to be considered the number one contender in the Light Heavyweight division.
Couture will be fighting be fighting in the UFC, an organization that made his father famous, for the very first time. His father, Randy Couture, will not be cornering him. It will probably be a long time before we see Randy at a UFC event, if ever, after he signed a deal to coach a reality TV series on Spike TV. He is currently riding a four fight win streak. Couture will be looking to prove he belongs in the UFC because of his talent not because of his famous father’s last name.
Pearson will look to build on his TKO victory over George Sotiropoulos at UFC on FX 6. It marked his return to Lightweight after testing the waters in the Featherweight division. The Lightweight division is very deep and talented; both fighters need a victory to stay relevant in the crowded division.
UFC on FUEL TV 9 is scheduled to take place on April 6th at Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm.
