| The main card kicked off with a very intriguing match up between two UFC veterans and TUF alumni. Both men were coming off of losses, Johnson being plagued by a 2 fight skid. This was a perfect fight to set the tone for the main card action.

Johnson came out looking a little bit faster. He hit some nice straights and a beautiful uppercut and it looked as if Lauzon was having trouble getting anything off. Johnson was quick and always first to the exchange. He dropped Lauzon with a nice straight left and took over the round completely following that. He was landing beautiful combinations, incorporating nice leg and body kicks, but the one strike that stuck out the most was his uppercut, which landed several times in the opening frame. He rocked Lauzon later in the round as well then invited him to stand back up. It was an impressive opening round for Johnson, but like Lauzon always does, he survived the early storm.

Lauzon came out and took control of the second round. He was pressing the pace and it was immediately obvious that Johnson had lost some of the steam he had pushing him in the first round. In typical Joe Lauzon style he continued to grind on Johnson, stay in his face, bring the action. This round was much more uneventful than the first but it was a much closer round. Johnson slowed down and Lauzon stepped up the pressure but Johnson was still landing some strikes, they just didn’t have the power that they had in the first. At the very end of the round Johnson hit a smooth blast-double leg and took Lauzon down to end the 2nd frame. It was a close round but I think the edge went slightly to Lauzon.

The third round was all Michael Johnson. He came out much like the first round and beat Lauzon to the punch in every exchange. He was constantly moving, showing off amazing footwork, and really made Lauzon look slow and un-athletic.  Johnson muted the masses inside the TD Garden in Boston as he ran through Lauzon in front of his hometown crowd, earning himself a very impressive unanimous decision. The loss for Lauzon is his second in a row.

This was easily Johnson’s most impressive performance inside the UFC and he earned himself his first victory in his last three fights. The win over Lauzon snapped a 2 fight losing streak and now that he is back in the winners circle he’ll likely draw someone else that is also coming off of a win for his next bout. This was a great fight that Johnson dominated from start to finish. Hats off to Michael Johnson on his great performance.

Stay posted to BJPenn.com to see what the organization decides to give Johnson next.
