UFC on Fox 5 Weigh In Results: Diaz, Assuncao, Martinez Miss the Mark
Main event title challenger, Nate Diaz – failed to hit his target weight on the first attempt and was given two hours to cut the additional weight along with 2 other fighters. Making that a total of 3 fighters missing the mark.
There is no one pound allowance for a title fight. Diaz weighed in at 155.6 pounds for his lightweight title fight against Benson Henderson. . Diaz initially appeared slightly surprised he needed to make exactly 155 lbs for the lightweight title fight. Diaz returned shortly after the official weigh-in event & following bathroom use and weighed 155.2with about 100 minutes on the clock to get to 155.
Diaz’s third attempt, Diaz hit 155 pounds. Diaz hit the mark less than an hour after his first attempt.
Henderson weighed 154.6 pounds for the second defense of his belt.
Co-main-event light-heavyweight contenders Alexander Gustafsson came in at 205.4lbs with former champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua coming in at 205 lbs. Both hitting the mark
Former two-division champion B.J. Penn fights for the first time in more than 14 months and weighed in at 168.2. His opponent, up-and-coming Georges St-Pierre teammate Rory MacDonald was 170.2.
Finishing off the FOX-televised main card, welterweights Matt Brown was 170.2 lbs and Mike Swick came in at 170.
The two other fighters who missed their target was Raphael Assuncao coming in at 136.4 for his fight against Mike Easton who weighed in at 135 lbs., and Henry Martinez weighed in at 158.8 for his bout with Daron Cruickshank who came in at 155 lbs. Assuncao returned and made weight on his second attempt. But Martinez elected to not attempt the cut and forfeited 20% of his fight purse to Cruickshank.

ok so Diaz made weight eventually. and so did Assuncao… so only one person didn’t make weight. That title was misleading and now I’m unnecessarily angry at something trivial!
