UFC on Fox 4 adds four new fights, Including The Return Of Swick | UFC NEWS

By Chris Taylor:

Yesterday, the UFC announced that four fights had been added to the UFC on Fox 4 card scheduled for August 4th in Los Angeles. This included a welterweight bout which will showcase the return of Mick Swick (14-4 MMA, 9-3 UFC), who takes on DaMarques Johnson (16-10 MMA, 4-4 UFC).

The other 3 newly announced fights take place in the UFC featherweight division, they are as follows:

Josh Grispi (14-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) vs. Pablo Garza (11-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC)
Nam Phan (17-10 MMA, 1-3 UFC) vs. Cole Miller (18-6 MMA, 7-4 UFC)
Manny Gamburyan (11-7 MMA, 2-5 UFC) vs. Michihiro Omigawa (13-11-1 MMA, 1-3 UFC)

Swick will be fighting for the first time in over 2 and a half years. It was back in 2008 when Mike dropped down to the UFC welterweight division. A move that saw Swick reel off 4 straight victories in the weight class. Since then he has suffered back to back losses to Dan Hardy and Paulo Thiago, not to mention the fact he has been plagued with injuries and illness. Swick takes on TUF season 9 runner up, DaMarques Johnson, who is looking to gain some consistency in his career. Johnson has gone 3-3 in his past 6 fights, altering between wins and losses along the way. DaMarques latest effort was a loss to John Maguire at UFC on Fuel TV 2 this past April.

Josh Grispi is also returning from a long layoff due to injury, the former featherweight contender will fight for the first time in 14 months. Grispi is looking to return to the form he showed back in 2007-2010, a stretch that saw him win 10 straight fights. He has suffered back to back losses against Dustin Poirier and George Roop in his most recent outings. His opponent, Pablo Garza, will also be looking to snap a two fight losing skid. After starting off his UFC career with two impressive 1st round finishes, Garza has lost his past two fights to Dustin Poirier and Dennis Bermudez.

A member of  TUF  season 12, Nam Phan has seen his ups and downs since joining the UFC. He is 1-3 in his career, and has lost some very close decisions in the process. However his latest effort, which was a decision loss to rising prospect Jimy Hettes at UFC 141, really has put Nam in the position of needing a win. He was dominated by Hettes in that fight and will be looking to rebound against  Cole Miller. Miller, who lost his featherweight debut to Steven Siler back in March, has won 3 submission of the night awards in the UFC lightweight division and will surely be looking for his first as a featherweight against Phan this August.

Finally, former featherweight top contender Manny Gamburyan will be likely fighting to keep his job this August. He has gone 0-3 in has past three fights, suffering losses to Jose Aldo, Diego Nunes and Tyson Griffin. He takes on Michihiro Omigawa, who has also struggled since joining the UFC. Omigawa has gone 1-3 thus far with his lone victory coming over Jason Young at UFC 138. It is a safe bet that the loser of this fight will be served their walking papers from Dana White.

The UFC on FOX 4 card now includes:

Hector Lombard vs. Brian Stann

Ryan Bader vs. Lyoto Machida

Travis Browne vs. Ben Rothwell

Terry Etim vs. Joe Lauzon

Rob Broughton vs. Matt Mitrione

Phil Davis vs. Chad Griggs

Phil De Fries vs. Oli Thompson

DaMarques Johnson vs. Mike Swick

Cole Miller vs. Nam Phan

Pablo Garza vs. Josh Grispi

Manny Gamburyan vs. Michihiro Omigawa

This card should be fun to watch, there is a lot of good fights here.

    • GET RID OF FITCH ( forever) says:

Swick should have been matched up with someone with a similiar record. Just when you want to believe the UFC when they say their is no easy fights left in UFC and they give Swick a walk thru fight like this. Swick will stub his toe on way to cage and be out 2 years anyway so it hardly matters

      • parker says:

There giving him Johnson because swick has been out for over 2 years And there’s no telling how hell fight when he gets back. But swick should be able to take this one easy

    • Thurgood Jenkins says:

I agree Phill. With most of the guys in these four recently added fights on the chopping block, it should make for some action-packed fights.

  2. Aaron says:

Hell yea I can’t wait to see my boy Swick back in the game. I went and met him when he was around Houston and he’s a badass.

  3. crazyhorse420 says:

  4. Nando says:

I’m thinking of going, but I’m not gonna buy very expensive seats. For the first UFC on FOX I was sitting cageside, but this doesn’t seem worth 380.

  5. John M says:
