UFC on FOX 3 Goes Up Against Mayweather vs. Cotto

On May 5th UFC will appear on FOX for the third time with UFC on FOX 3. The main event features a lightweight battle between Jim Miller and Nate Diaz that will likely push the winner towards title contention. On the same night Floyd Mayweather will face off against Miguel Cotto.
Another bold move on the part of FOX showing the UFC on FOX 3 on the same night as a major boxing card. You may remember the first UFC on FOX Dos Santos vs. Velasquez was shown on the same night as Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Márquez.
Lorenzo Fertitta commented on the theory behind the scheduling earlier in the week with MMA Fighting.
“That’s kind of FOX’s deal. They do all the research they’re really smart guys .The theory is that people are home. It’s a great fight night; you’re going to watch Pacquiao or whatever; you can turn on FOX, you can watch our fight; you’ll have a great night.”
With the original UFC on FOX card this theory was successful as almost nine million viewers tuned in to watch Dos Santos knock out Velasquez in the first round and claim the UFC Heavyweight title.
Do you think the scheduling will pay off once again ? Or will the Mayweather vs. Cotto event keep the spotlight ?

Should be a good night of fights think views will go up but nowhere near 9 mill the original fight had heavyweights loads of promotion and a title involved !
good marketing move; no one watches boxing undercards. people will be able to enjoy free high-level and quality UFC fights before tuning into the Mayweather – Cotto fight.

More people will be interested in Canelo/Mosley than the entire UFC on Fox III card
Agree!
Double agree!
MMA is steppin’ up in competition… The UFC should go against a Pacquiao fight and assemble a monster card and see how it goes… BOB ARUM **** YOU
Seems like the UFC is trying to be the PPV boxing undercard, no competition here move along
It’s good move because it put pressure on the boxing fraternity to finally set up the fight the whole world wants to see Pacquiao V Mayweather Jnr
I will watch any UFC event over any boxing anyday….
‘Ben Reyes

Good for you but the majority of fight fans will do otherwise
‘Make it HAPPEN already

Do you really believe such an absurd statement, boxing is concerned about boxing
It’s Mayweathers fault the fight hasn’t happened. He won’t give PAC 50/50 on PPV buys.
It Doesnt Matter if there going up against boxing or not there going to make money either way boxing is not going to be affected by ufc being on the same day or other way around around boxing has enough of a fan base thats its not going to bother them same as you ufc
ufc has a fan base out of this world so to say it thats it going to affect either of them is a big fat NO
I disagree good sir. The same casual fans of MMA are the same exact casual fans of Boxing. Also you have hardcore fight fans that watch both like myself. Where do you think boxing fans go when they are unhappy with a stupid arcane ref decision? But I think more people will tune into a free event on Fox rather than paying for an exorbitant PPV. But, people will be tuning in to watch and see if Mayweather gets his first loss.
PAT “HD” BARRY! All day!
The people why pay for Mayweather/Cotto will also be paying to see Canelo/Mosley as well. It’s not like they’re going to just ignore it because the UFC is on. This could only hurt the UFC. The FOX card wasn’t even a good one to begin with? Nate Diaz vs Miller? Who would watch that anyway? That’s an undercard fight and nothing else.
I love boxing but I have almost entirely lost interest in it. Mayweather is almost singlehandedly killing the sport. He is a tremendous waste of ability and represents all of what is wrong with boxing today. I would never dream of putting a single penny in that guy’s pocket. I will probably pirate it later though.
Let me see I pay 60 dollars for one fight that will be boring or I watch a free fight that has 4 or 5 great fights on the card ufc please.
**** watching Mayweather.
I’m interested to see Mayweather vs Cotto (really just for shits and giggles), but not that interested that I’m going to go out of my way to see both. I’ll catch a re-air of the boxing match at a later date. Boxing promoters keeps shooting themselves in the foot, and digging their hole deeper and deeper. UFC is doing it smart. They are giving the fans what they want to see, and still making money. Boxing promoters are more concerned about making money, for as long as they can. That’s why you get these crappy match ups, and not the ones that everyone wants to see. To them, 3 or 4 decent paydays, beats one big one.
